I have cried so many times over this. I knew it was wrong. I should have told him the truth, not run away because that’s what everyone else wanted.

I’ve no idea how he feels about me.

I walk inside and find my mom and Maddie having a coffee and talking in the kitchen.

I know mom is worried about my dads checkup coming up, though she doesn’t say it outright. I’m hoping that there’s nothing bad going on. He has cut back at work, which is a good thing because he’s always worked so hard. I don’t think she would have it any other way while these tests are taking place.

It’s a strange thing to see your parents getting older. Not that they are old, by any means, but dad is nearly sixty, and to see him having health problems and to have to slow down, it makes you realize even more how precious time actually is.

I hear my phone ping just when I’m about to take a shower.

Maddison is doing a bit of catch-up work on her laptop before we all go out for Chinese.

I lean back on the bathroom cabinet and see Taylor’s name flash up on my screen with part of the message. My heart is instantly hammering in a bid to unlock my phone and see what the message says. It takes all of about two seconds for him to get me in a scramble.

Hey Emmerson, Recovering just fine, all good. Glad that you girls could cometo the game… what are yourplans while you’re in town?

I stare at the screen and read it over and over again. What are your plans while you’re in town?

I type back straight away.

Not too many plans, just visiting my folks.

I press send, and before I can stop myself, I type another.

Do you want to catch up for dinner?

I’ve no idea why the hell I typed that. Am I really going to be able to sit across from him having a meal?

I glance down and see the little bubble appear that he’s typing back. I bite my lip anxiously while I wait for his reply.

Sounds good. BTW Ashton wants to meet Maddie before she leaves.

I don’t know why my heart sinks a little bit… he wants to bring Ashton and Maddie so they can meet? I don’t know how that’s going to go since we need to talk just the two of us.

I’m all for them meeting. In fact, I think Ashton is a really cool guy. Maybe it’s selfish, but I just want some alone time with Taylor since I’m not in town for very long.

I see the bubble appear again before I have a chance to type back.

Maybe we could do dinner the two of us, then have coffee with Ashton & Maddie another day?

Shit, it’s like he can read my mind.

Sounds perfect

Elliott’s oyster house tomorrow 8pm?

Great!

P.s. You don’t just have to eat oysters

I can’t help but laugh.

Thank god for that!

I’ll see you then

I’ll be there.
