Trashing the room, I finally found the black, camera and ran back to the huge courtyard, resting against a tree to catch my breath.

Meanwhile, Jason stood at the entrance, almost like he wasn’t on my heel the entire time.

Foolish, in-shape men.

Like my husband, I bet Galdur could run this estate’s perimeter without breaking a sweat the way his taut muscles stretched his skin.

I shook my head free of him and refocused on the nature around me. For once, I felt the slightest joy as I began snapping pictures of everything that caught my eye.

I smiled at my work, pleased by how they came out. They did the garden no justice, but they were still eye-catching.

I don’t know how long I spent in the garden but soon Jason was telling me it was dinner.

This time, I walked to the dining hall, prepared to scarf down another tasty meal. I wouldn’t admit it to Galdur, but the pasta was delicious, like comfort food your grandmother cooked for you when you were sad or sick. It automatically made me regret swearing off food in protest of this sham of a marriage.

Chapter Ten

ELIAS

While I was stuck at one of our nightclubs finalizing plans for its grand opening tomorrow night, Jason sent me messages throughout the day, updating me about my wife’s whereabouts.

However, that wasn’t enough to stop me from checking my security cameras to catch a glimpse of her, especially when she was in the garden. She looked like a princess as her face lit up at the dullest to brightest plants. The birds that were perched on branches watched her like I did, in awe.

The botanical garden wasn’t my idea, but rather my sister's. One I was opposed to from the beginning but what little people knew about me is I would do anything for my sister. She was the one light in this tunnel.

A few people knew of her existence and I liked it that way. She was not made for this world and unlike, Michael, I had no plans to marry my sister to any men on this side of hell.

She deserved better. This world held nothing but heartache and death. She was too pure, just like Mia.

I watched my wife run around the garden, taking pictures with her camera, and a smile that caused her eyes to squint.

She looked happy. Something I wasn’t privy to when she was near me.

I walked into the dining hall, this time my sweet wife was sitting there, her hands picking at the tablecloth until she saw me.

“Good evening,” I said, taking a seat next to her.

“Good evening, Mr. Galdur.”

I grinned. That was new.

“Elias."

"Huh?"

"You call me Elias, sweetheart.”

She looked at me stunned; her cheeks reddened. A constant I realized whenever I called her by the pet name I reserved just for her.

She nodded.

Louise made herself known, entering the room with two dishes. This time it was mashed potato and lamb chops with a few vegetables.

I looked at my wife; her mouth was salivating as Louise sat the plate in front of her.

“Thank you. It looks delicious,” she whispered to Louise squeezing her arm.

Louise replied, “You’re welcome, Mrs. Galdur” and that was enough for my chest to rumble with an animal-like growl; a strong storm of possessiveness awakened in the pits of my stomach, especially as her ring winked at me.
