“Have a nice time?” Aksel sneers.

He was annoyed the whole time they were gone. Complaining about delaying the mission for ‘gallivanting about.’ I was also smelling jealousy and envy from him but I won’t be asking why that is.

“Yes, we did. Thanks for asking,” Anna answers sharply.

“Then let’s go question Ryan. Blaze here has been playing guard dog all day.”

Anna gives me a grateful smile and all of Aksel’s harassment for the day is worth it.

Aksel leads the way to the basement but Anna falls back next to me.

“Thanks, Blaze. I’m sure dealing with Akshole all day wasn’t easy.”

I give her a nod, tilting the corners of my cheeks up. She returns it with a full-blown smile, perfect teeth, and all.

“I’m not sure how you put up with him all the time. You’re the only one who seems unaffected.”

That’s not entirely true. I just care enough about him to put up with it.

“He’s an acquired taste. Maybe by the end of all this you’ll be used to him too.”

She laughs softly. “Here’s to hoping.”

Her smile dies as we approach the basement. Nerves wafting from her. My dragon rumbles in my chest at her distress.

“You don’t have to.”

She looks up at me furrowing her eyebrows.

“Go down there or talk to him. We can just tell you what he says,” I explain.

It’s obvious she doesn’t want to talk to him and it makes sense.

“No. I need to do this,” she says firmly. She starts to go down before turning back to me. “But, thank you.”

We both head downstairs, the others waiting in front of Ryan.

“Sorry we didn’t bring you anything. Not in the habit of feeding prisoners,” Aksel says, harshly.

Anna glares at him until Felix amends, “As soon as we know we shouldn’t be keeping you in a weakened state, we will get you some blood.”

That’ll be fun to get a hold of.

“Ryan, do you know where we could find your brother… Killian?” Griffyn asks.

He grimaces before curtly saying, “No.”

“That’s what you want to go with? And I was just barely softening towards you. We know your brother liked to talk to his victims all about his plans so just fess up,” Griffyn says.

Ryan scowls at him but doesn’t say anymore.

He could at least pretend to work with us. Although, I’m glad we know where he stands. He’s not on our side and we would be smart to remember that.

“Is there anything you do want to share with us?” I ask.

“I’m a vampire. My favorite color is green. I like-”

“That’s not what I meant,” I growl out, clenching my fist.
