I have gifted him my soul to do what the hell he likes with it, and nothing else matters more than that.

CHAPTER36

KILLIAN

We are leaving Serenita and my family because life goes on and my business won’t wait. My grandfather and nonna are sad to see us go, but I register the challenge in my grandfather’s eyes and the weight of responsibility lies heavy on my shoulders.

As I bid farewell to my grandmother, she surprises me by whispering, “I have hope for you yet. Open your eyes and accept what’s in front of you. Don’t live in ignorance and guard your treasure well.”

“You speak in riddles, Nonna.” I whisper against her ear, and she laughs softly. “Do I? Remind me of that when I see you next.”

Serena and Shade bid us farewell and I am happy they have accepted Purity into the family as one of us already. I overhear Serena whispering plans to meet up with my bride and the grateful happiness in Purity’s eyes cuts me deep. She is so happy. It’s obvious in her bright eyes and flushed face. She gazes at me as if she can’t believe I’m real and that makes me fucking invincible.

The journey home is different from the one out here. For the first hour I fuck Purity senseless and then, leaving her to sleep, I shower and head to meet Saint for business.

We spread out the contents of the folder my grandfather gifted me, and Saint appears as disturbed as I am.

“What’s your plan?” He says as he holds the photograph of Gabriella waiting by the car handing Purity her business card.

“We need more information.” I growl and Saint nods.

“This is unexpected.” He says simply and I nod, the anger growing by the second at the betrayal this photograph portrays. It’s like a punch in the heart and I sigh with exasperation. “It’s a fucking disgrace. That’s what this is, but we can’t deal with it until we discover who the organ grinder is.”

“Any ideas?”

“None at all. It will be a delicate operation to discover their identity.”

“These photographs.” Saint holds one in his hand.

“How did your grandfather obtain them?”

“A private investigator, apparently. He is a mistrusting bastard who enjoys having eyes and ears on his staff. For some reason, he chose Gabriella this time, and it paid off.”

“I think it’s more than that.” Saint says with a puzzled frown. Rather than be angry at his words, I lean forward, trusting his judgment more than my own sometimes.

“It makes more sense that he was following her companion.”

“I guess.” I nod, the hatred twisting in my gut as I stare at the face of the hated man in the white suit.

Saint places the photograph down and leans back, reaching for the glass of whiskey that usually accompanies every business meeting we have.

“I will call on the guy I’ve had watching Gabriella. Demand a full report as a starting point.” Saint says with a grim expression.

“Then get some eyes on her accomplice. I need to know his movements and who he calls. Put a tap on his phone and eyes on his movements, twenty-four seven. Any ideas who the lucky lady will be?”

“Not Gina. She is still working on Jefferson.”

Saint pulls out his phone. “Polly, perhaps.”

“Too rough. We need it to be believable.”

“Portia. She has been quiet for a while and could be perfect.”

“Good choice.” I stare at the damning photographs and my blood boils. The fucking bastard. What the hell is he playing at?”

I spend the rest of the flight with Saint. My thoughts consumed by business rather than pleasure, as usual. Purity has already been relegated to my fuck toy while I carry on building my empire and yet as I stare out at the white fluffy clouds bouncing below the sun, I have an overwhelming desire to be with her right now. To hear her soft giggle and drown in those eyes that gaze at me with adoration.

She makes me feel like a king—her king—and I am fast realizing she is more important to me than I am comfortable with.
