“Exactly.” Jax motions his eyes up and down the screen as if he is checking out to see how far down my body he can view on camera. “You get it. You hear that, Harry? Cailin gets it. Touring on a bus is a good move.” I can feel his eyes stay on me as the conversation continues.

“It all sounds inspirational until you’re driving hours through nothing but highway and crave a pepperoni slice, but the next pizza parlor is fifty miles away,” Harry says.

Jax rolls his eyes and everyone starts sharing stories of old days on the road. Then, the conversation steers back to the logistics of the tour and the campaign. I quietly observe, in awe, that I will be a part of this chapter.

“Now that we have our marching orders, my team is ready to kick things off,” Marisol says. “Cailin will you also please touch base with Jax later today as you work on the press release? You two should set up a call to discuss quotes to include and use for media outreach. The press is going to eat this up.” Marisol rubs her hands together in anticipation.

“No problem, Marisol.” Sure, I’ll call Jax on his cell and have a one-on-one conversation about his inspiration behind the album and thoughts about embarking on a solo tour. No pressure. My palms are already sweaty. I wipe them on my shirt as I say, “I’d also love to hear the new album if possible, so I can properly describe it in the release.”

“Done.” Harry slaps his hand on the desk. “I’ll send you the confidential streaming link now. Look forward to your thoughts on this. It’s a bit different from the dreamy pop songs 5 Leo Hearts fans know and love. Though, Jax will still perform some of them on tour as part of a nostalgia melody. Gotta give the girls what they love, you know?” He pauses and then asks, “Hey, were you a 5 Leo Hearts fan back in the day?”

And there it is. The question I’ve been dreading being asked for fear I will have to admit that I know every lyric to every song.

“Who wasn’t?” Let me just pat myself on the back with that smooth response.

“Well, fans of Cute Boys Band,” Harry says. “Boy band fans were pretty competitive.”

“Tell me about it!” I can’t help it. Word vomit is spewing out of my mouth. Why am I saying that? I can't think clearly in the presence of Jax Slater. “That was always so frustrating because 5 Leo Hearts came out first and Cute Boys Band was clearly trying to cash in on their success with sub-par songs and less attractive members. Their style also lacked, too.”

“I told you she knows her stuff,” Marisol says.

“Sounds like she does,” Harry says. “Just the addition our team needs.”

“I’m looking forward to it. Thanks for sending over the new music. I see the link in my inbox. I’ll give it a listen and reach out to Jax later today to discuss press release quotes. Oh, and the social media post.”

“Perfect,” Harry says. “Once the tour is announced, the NDA ends and everyone on our team can promote the tour from their social pages too, and tag Jax, if you don’t mind.”

“Our team is on it,” Marisol says.

As our call concludes, I focus on my next steps for the day, which include a private phone call with Jax Slater, whose phone number is now in my inbox. And then I have to tag him in a social media post, which means he is going to look at my social profile and everything I’ve posted. I’ll need to clean up my page.

“Interested to hear your thoughts on the music, Cailin,” Jax says. “I’ll wait to hear from you about the press release.”

And with that we all nod and log off. Jax Slater said my name. And he’s waiting to hear from me about what I think of his new music. There’s only one thing to do now: get to work and impress him.

Trash the Dress Online Chat

Cora:Leanne got me thinking. Since I’m in my car, maybe I should road trip to meet some of you!

Alexandra:Please tell me you are not still sleeping in your car.

Leanne:Yes! Let’s map out where we all are and you can come stay with each of us while you figure things out.

Cora:This actually might be a good idea. I’ll think about it.

BREAKING NEWS: JAX SLATER IS CRUSHING ON NEW PUBLICIST

JAX

My new publicistis not what I expected. For one thing, it’s not a dude. Harry apparently found out shortly before our video chat with the team and didn’t even warn me. I mean, not like it matters, or that I needed advance notice. But it would have been nice to see the website he was referring to when he spoke to Cailin on the call.

Cailin caught me off guard and I couldn’t stop myself from staring at her across my monitor. I hope she couldn’t tell. For all she knows, I could have been looking at Harry. Okay, I hope she doesn’t think I was staring at Harry. But it's better that she doesn't think I’m gazing at her because she's working for me. She's untouchable. The worst kind of torture because she’s gorgeous.

Cailin’s a brunette, which is super refreshing to see. Her hair is long and straight, giving her a fierce look. She’s the opposite of a California girl. Definitely New York vibes, but through the professional shield she put up, I can see she’s also a little shy. I saw her flushed cheeks and immediately pictured myself whispering dirty words into her ears to deliberately make her temperature rise. This intense, immediate attraction is, of course, bad. I can’t sleep with my publicist. Especially if I want to shed my bad boy reputation.

I tried to concentrate on what everyone was saying on the call, but mostly I was focused on Cailin’s mouth. Every time she spoke, I watched her glossy lips move. Sweet, juicy lips that spewed actual knowledge and strategy. That drove me wild.
