“No one’s here but us,” he says. Jax puts his hands on my waist and pulls me towards him. There’s no space between us. I know what’s going to happen and I know it’s wrong. I’m about to throw away years of hard work and credibility. I’ll get labeled a groupie, lose my job, and maybe even end up feeling like a fool if Jax isn’t as serious about me as I am about him. Yet, I can’t hold back any longer. I spent too many years not feeling desired. And here is the man of my dreams, with his hands on my body.

“I want to kiss you,” Jax tells me as his mouth finally inches closer to mine. His eyes search mine for a sign.

My insides quiver. I can’t pull away from the magnetic force Jax has over me, so instead, I release myself to be free in this moment. I put my arms on his broad shoulders and swallow hard, anticipating what comes next. Going against all I know that is right and professional, I slowly lick my lips and move to meet his.

Jax softly brushes his mouth against mine, taking my upper lip between his. Lips that have sung words I’ve recited to myself for years, dreaming of a feeling like this. But it’s even better. Tiny little sparks burst across my lips and scatter across my limbs, down my arms, into my stomach, and travel down my legs, lighting up my dormant body.

He holds our lips together, savoring the seconds as he gently traces my jawline with his fingertips. It’s not enough, I press my chest into him and Jax releases his lips only to meet mine again in a deeper, needier collision. Jax leads my mouth with every stroke of his graceful tongue and I follow his command. His method of alternating from slow and sensual to harder, firm movements keeps me on edge.

I’m kissing Jax Slater. My mind is going a million miles a minute. My teenage self is high-fiving me and squealing at the top of her lungs. The professional in me is praying no one sees this public display because that would mean the end of my job. The romantic in me is cherishing every second, soaking in the taste of his minty breath and the smell of his aftershave.

I open my eyes for a split second, to make sure this is real. That’s when I realize Jax’s eyes are already open, relishing every intimate detail. He lifts my chin so that our eyes are level and nuzzles our noses together before reuniting our lips. His eyes remain locked with mine and I swear by now I can hear my heart beating out of my chest. A whimper escapes me. This is what desire is supposed to feel like, I discover.

Jax softly explores my neck with his mouth and I reciprocate. I want to run my fingers through his hair, but I can’t mess it up right before show time. And then, I remember…

“Oh no!” I pull away.

Jax looks startled.

“My red lipstick. It’s going to stain you!”

“Oh damn,” Jax says. He rubs his lips.

I know just how to fix that. “Here, let’s run back into the bus and grab some baby wipes.” Who knew baby wipes would have so many uses on this tour? Maybe I should have taken Gemma up on her offer to get me the value-sized pack. I grab his hand and wobbly run in heels back to the bus.

Inside the bus, Jax locks the door while I grab the baby wipes and remove the red smears off his face. Then, he gently takes his fingers and dabs away my smears.

“How do I look?” Jax asks.

“Not a trace. How about me?”

“Not a trace,” he says, coming closer. “So, we can finish that kiss.”

Before my brain can catch up and yell at me, Jax picks me up in his arms and carries me over to the seating area. He sits down and I straddle him, thanking the fashion icons for creating this loose-fitting, flowy fabric. His arms wrap around my back and I cradle his soft face in my hands, careful not to ruffle his hair. Heat rises between us and I don’t want this to end. But doors are going to open soon. And the media is going to start to arrive.

Kissing Jax gives me a big time rush, but I pull back and try to compose myself. “As much as I want to keep kissing you, I have to fix myself before I head to the press room,” I say.

Jax keeps us interlocked for one more, slow, soul-sucking minute. “All right, but do me a favor.”

“What’s that?”

“Throw out that red lipstick. How am I ever going to steal a taste of you when other people are around if you’re wearing that?”

I mean, I’m not going to pass up opportunities for secret kisses. “Clear gloss from here on out.”

We stand up and exchange a passionate embrace of our lips one more time, before Jax finally pulls himself out the door. I stand on the other side and watch him walk down our secret alley to the venue. He doesn’t stop to check his phone to see if anyone texted him or if he has any social media notifications. He’s set towards one direction, on a mission to be the pop star everyone knows and loves. Including me.
