I cut in, “Meet my family and friends.”

“And we can even go back to Florida. I’d love to show you where I grew up. Man, I haven’t been there since I was a kid.”

“You never took anyone, I mean, like Maxine, back there? Sorry to keep bringing her up. Just curious. Since you were with her for so long.”

“Never. I don’t think she would even have been interested, now looking back. There would be no cameras following us around to show for it, so it wouldn’t have been worth it for her. And I never thought of it, to be honest. That must mean something, right?”

“She didn’t completely have all of you, did she?” I run my fingers through his hair. His locks are getting longer and I love it when it’s naturally messy.

“I thought she did, until I met you.”

We’ve both been having revelations about love and relationships. “Not to keep bringing up the past, but I have learned a lot about myself just by being with you and I realized that what I thought was good or right, really wasn’t at all.”

“This little adventure we’ll embark on will be for us to really learn everything about each other. Because I want to know it all, Cailin. And I want you to know me completely. This is real for me.”

“This is real for me too.”

“What I’m trying to say, is….”

Just then, the flight attendants come in and clear our food.

“Can we get you anything else, Mr. Slater?” the one with the short blonde hair asks.

“No, thank you. Everything was delicious.”

“Wonderful,” says the other, with bouncing dark curls falling out of her bun. “Then we can move onto the next portion of your flight.”

“The next portion?” I am stumped as to what else Jax could have planned for us on this plane ride.

The flight attendant motions for us to take a seat on the couch and she turns on the big screen monitor. “Mr. Slater has selected a movie for you to view.”

“Please, no more action flicks,” I say.

“Relax,” Jax says, pulling a blanket over us. “It’s one of your rom-coms. I looked them up online and picked the one that sounded the least cheesy.”

“O-M-G, I am super excited. Which one did you choose? It doesn’t matter because I am going to make you watch them all eventually.”

“I don’t doubt that, and I deserve it after all the movies you sat through for me. Compromise and all that couple stuff, right?”

“Okay, enough talking. Press play.”

As the opening credits come across the screen, I realize Jax picked my favorite movie. It’s set in England and ironically features a washed-up pop star.

Being with Jax makes me feel even higher than the 35,000 feet we’re flying in the sky. Everything is perfect. I rest my head on Jax’s shoulder and wrap my arms around his stomach. The plane is hitting a little bit of turbulence, but I know together, we’re set for a smooth ride. Or, at least I hope we are.
