She groaned and sat up. “I thought my only job was trying to get another vision to confirm our plan will work?”

“That’s one job. Not the only one,” I said pointedly.

Markus came out of their bedroom and lifted a lip at me. “I told you to leave her alone.”

“And I did. For a short time,” I countered before glancing back at the unicorn. “Are you going to take us?”

She pushed off the couch and shoulder-checked me. “Of course I am.”

Lia went to Markus and kissed his cheek. “Will you come?”

He was still glowering at me while he answered with a terse, “Yes.”

“Are we ready to go, then?” Lia asked, back to her cheerful self.

Kinsley’s footfalls could be heard coming from the bedroom, so I nodded and reached back for her before Lia could grab onto my arm.

“Do you know where you’re going?” I asked the unicorn.

The smirk on her face didn’t bode well for me. “Of course not. I’m not a stalker. I don’t know where you live.”

It wasn’t like I had an address for my cabin in the middle of nowhere, so I wasn’t sure how to give her directions. Just when I was about to say this was a lost cause, she spoke up again.

“I can get the location from your memories. I just need to take a little peek inside that head of yours.”

“No,” I immediately replied. There was no way I was going to let anyone poke around in my mind.

She rolled her eyes and stepped closer to me with her hand out. “If you’re only thinking about your cabin, then I won’t see anything else and it will be quick. I promise.”

Lia spoke sincerely, and considering all we’d been through in the last few weeks, maybe giving her the benefit of the doubt wouldn’t be so bad.

“Don’t make me regret this,” I warned before closing my eyes and picturing the outside of my home, the roads I traveled to get there with my jeep, and the areas surrounding it.

A small shock rolled through my mind when Lia pressed two fingers to my temple, and just as she promised, she pulled away quickly. “Got it. Let’s go.”

My shoulders shook, and Kinsley stroked my arm. “I’m proud of you.”

Before I could respond to my mate, Lia latched on to me, then Markus and teleported us out of the room. The air left my lungs, and everything went dark, but that only lasted for a moment before we reappeared between my living room and kitchen.

Lia glanced quickly around and smirked. “I’m not the least bit surprised this is what you call home.”

I didn’t validate her comment with a response. Instead, I took a deep inhale, then stiffened when I scented something foreign. “Be quiet.”

I closed my eyes and focused on my one-bedroom home. I knew every corner and crevice in the place and there was something off. A sour taste of energy that didn’t belong.

Someone had been here while I’d been gone.

I didn’t hear anything else, which was good, but that didn’t mean everything was okay. I glanced at the others. “We need to be quick. Markus, go into the kitchen and rip up the floorboards. There’s a chest hidden there.”

Without waiting to hear his response, I grabbed Kinsley’s hand and pulled her to my room, which had already been ransacked. “Fuck,” I muttered.

Thankfully, I wasn’t a moron and had hidden most of my more important items, but still, we’d only be taking back half of what I’d hoped for.

My dresser was toppled over, and the drawers were all broken. The closet door had been ripped from the hinges, and all my clothes were shredded and lying on the floor or on my bed, which had been overturned.

Kinsley gasped next to me, taking in the destruction. “I’m so sorry, Grayson.”

“They’re just things,” I said as I shoved the box spring and mattress out of my way.
