Kinsley was vibrating next to me. She hadn’t said a word or made a move, but there was a storm building inside her, that was certain.

Her chest rumbled, and I wrapped my arms around her. “You need to take a breath.”

“A breath?” She slowly turned her head to look up at me. “A fucking breath? Are you seeing what I’m seeing?”

She took a step away from me, but I pulled her back flush against my chest. “This is what Dylan wanted. He wanted to tear us apart. Don’t let him win now.”

Her arms jerked within my hold, and I was barely keeping her contained. “We have to fucking kill them all. Every single shifter who hurt these people. They’re all going to fucking burn.”

The hoarseness of her voice, the agony I could sense within her…all of it made me want to rage on her behalf, but I knew that wouldn’t solve anything.

Not for the people here.

They needed to see their potential new Alpha Supreme in control, not falling apart at the first sign of destruction.

I grabbed Kinsley’s cheeks and forced her to look at me. “Who are you?”

“What does that have to do with anything right now?” she spat back.

“Everything.” I tightened my grip. “Now answer the damn question.”

Her eyes narrowed and her lip lifted in a quiet growl before she replied, “Kinsley Ash.”

“And?” I pressed.

She took a trembling breath. “The future Alpha Supreme of Fire and Fluorite.”

“That’s right,” I said, loosening my hold just slightly. “And what do you need to do right now?”

Her eyes fluttered closed, and she leaned forward, relaxing within my arms. “I need to calm the fuck down.”

“You also need to be in control,” I reminded her, lifting her chin back up. “Go help the people here in the waytheyneed right now. We can rage on their behalf later. When they’re safe and healing on their own.”

She took another deep breath. “Thank you.”

“There’s no thanks needed,” I said. “That’s what I’m here for, and what I’m sure you’ll do for me many times over.”

Her hand pressed over my chest. “You know, I think you just might be someone I could fall in love with.”

“I’m glad you’re just now realizing that.” My lips twitched upward. “Now let’s go see how we can help.”

She rolled her eyes and took my hand. “That wasn’t the reply I expected.”

“You won’t usually get what you expect from me.”

Kinsley matched my pace, and we walked swiftly toward the closest building. “I’m okay with that.”

Good, because I wasn’t going to give her a choice in the matter. Not now that we were officially mated. There was no going back after that.

Lia and Markus were nowhere to be seen, but I caught sight of Tuck and waved him down.

He jogged over, soot covering his ashy skin. “Are you okay?” he asked Kinsley first.

She nodded. “How can we help?”

“The group that showed up fled through a portal, so they had a witch helping them,” Tuck replied. “Since we have no way to track them, we’re just focusing on one family at a time. Lia and Markus are helping put the last of the fires out and clearing smoke, but people are going to need somewhere to sleep tonight. If you can direct those who’ve been displaced to the warehouse, Jenny is organizing beds.”

I didn’t know who Jenny was, but I was sure the other shifters would. “We’ll start with helping search for people now and do that.”
