Jacksonstares everyone down until they all agree.

Aswe head towards the back porch,Jackson’sbrothers hoot and holler at us.

“Shutit!”Jacksonbarks at them. “You’regoing to wake dad up!”

“Sorryabout them.They’reidiots.”

“It’sfine,Ipromise.Atleast, we’re being convincing.”

Jacksondoesn’t answer me.

Heleads me upstairs to his room.Istand there for a minute like an idiot, not knowing where to look or what to do.ThenIdecide to sit down on his bed.Imay as well get used to it, sinceI’mapparently going to be sleeping here.

“Anyinstructions?”

“Ijust need my suitcase… and my purse… and the clothes on the chair in the corner.Andmy pajamas. They’reunder the covers of my bed.My… old bed.”

“Yeah,Iremember that little hiding spot from the other night.Beright back.”

Ihaven’t spent any time in this room since we got here.Thewalls are painted white, like most of the house.Thebed frame is old and made of brass.Everyother piece of mismatched furniture is made of different shades of oak.Hissheets are white with what looks like a handmade patchwork quilt on top.Iwonder if his mom made it?Iwould take this room over any of the big fancy ones in his house back inL.A.

Jacksonwalks back into the room whileI’mstill taking stock of it.

“Ibrought you your pajamas and your makeup bag.Thoughtyou might want to get ready for bed whileIget the rest of your stuff.”

Thisis finally happening.I’mfinally going to sleep withJackson.Well, in his bed anyway.I’mfinally going to sleep withJackson, andIdon’t know howIfeel about it.

I’mstill awake whenJacksonwalks back into the room.

“Selena?Youawake?”

Ipanic and try to steady my breathing, so he thinksI’masleep in the double bed.

Hewalks back out of the room and heads for the bathroom.Whenhe comes back, he doesn’t try to talk to me again.Imust have convinced himI’masleep.

Iwatch out of barely open eyes as he kicks off his boots and tugs his t-shirt up and over his head.Thenhe unbuttons his jeans and pushes them down and throws them over the back of a chair.Whenhe bends over to take off his socks,Iget a full view of his ass.Andit is glorious.Theperfect blend of rounded muscle. It’snot fair that a man with so many blessings also has an ass like that.Notfair at all.

Pressingmy eyes shut tight,Ilisten asJacksonwalks around to my side of the bed.Ishe planning to climb in over top of me or something?NotthatI’dmind…

Jacksonpresses his hand against my face and draws his thumb over my eyebrow. “Goodnight, baby.”

Thenhe walks around to the other side of the bed, pulls back the quilt and sheet, and gently lays down next to me.Hesticks to his side of the bed, but with his hands behind his head and elbows out, he takes up more than half of it.

Inever thoughtIwould be this close toJackson, but he still feels so far away.

* * *

Whenmy eyesopen the next morning,Ihave no idea whereIam.Itry to move, butIcan’t.I’mtrapped.

Panicrips through me until feel something move under me.

I’mpressing my face against something hard.Somethingwarm.Somethingthat is definitely not a pillow.Myface is onJackson’schest.I’musingJackson’sperfect manchest as a freaking pillow.Ohmy god!I’veattached myself to him like a freaking barnacle.

“Morning.”

WhenIpress hard against his chest,Jacksonloosens the arm that was holding me tight against him.Myleg is draped over his.

“Oh, my god!”
