It didn’t sound like the worst plan in the world. Traitor or not, though, it still didn’t feel right to send my flesh and blood back to that asshole.

I shook my head. “Can’t do that, my friend. If Domínguez has figured out what she is, like we have, there’s nothing but bullets waiting for her at that end.”

“I’m not sure that’s a bad thing,” Deo muttered under his breath, glaring daggers at my sister.

She had her eyes closed, but she wasn’t fooling me. Leeri was wide awake.

“We can’t send her back even if we wanted to,” Greta said.

Vito’s brow furrowed. “Why not?”

“Because I opened my big mouth; that’s why.”

Right, she’d told Leeri that we hadn’t been there because of the guns.

“All right,” Deo said, “then we keep her under lock and key at my family’s estate.”

Greta scoffed. “You want to lock up a federal agent and hope none of herfriendscome sniffing around?”

Deo laughed. “It wouldn’t be the stupidest thing I’ve ever done.”

“No doubt,” Greta quipped back.

I stood up straighter. “She’s my blood, my responsibility. I can keep her at the Old Dogs’ clubhouse. My boys will keep an eye on her.”

I also wasn’t too keen on putting all my faith in Deo keeping Leeri under lock and key when it would be much easier to put her six feet under.

But Greta was shaking her head. “Neither of these are good options, boys. She knew about the Lucianos and the Old Dogs, which means her fed buddies could know about them too.”

“I don’t see many other options, darling. That’s a problem for me,” I said, moving a step toward Leeri, “because it’ll be over my dead body that you find apermanentsolution for my sister.”

Greta rolled her eyes. “I’m not talking about offing your sister, Brute. I’m talking about stashing her somewhere no one knows to look for her, not the feds—or whichever agency she works for—and not Domínguez.”

I cocked an eyebrow, waiting for her alternative.

Deo and Vito looked interested in the answer too.

She huffed. “Gabe,” she said like the answer was obvious. “It’s the best solution. She has no idea he was involved in what we were doing, so there’s no way she tipped off the feds about the Costas. And Deo, let’s face it,” she said, turning to him. “If your father got wind of what she is, she’d be dead, and you know it.”

Deo nodded. “She’s a big liability, Greta. I can’t blame him.”

Vito nodded in agreement.

“Not happening, my friend,” I warned.

“Ugh, would you guys get out of your own heads for two seconds here?” she snapped, crossing her arms over her chest. “She’s been with Domínguez for at least ayear, amici.Three-hundred and sixty-five opportunities to overhear shit that might be useful to us.”

“And you think she’s just going to offer up that information on a silver platter?” Deo asked.

She shrugged. “There are ways to persuade her.”

I opened my mouth to shoot down whatever “persuasion” she had in mind when she threw up a hand, right in front of my face.

“I’m not talking about torturing your sister, Brute, so don’t start barking at me; I’m not in the mood.”

I almost laughed. Clearly, Greta was exhausted. And apparently, the girl got cranky when she needed sleep.

I stared back at her instead, considering the alternative she was proposing.
