“This is not something you dump on a female we barely know,” I chuckle. “But the longer we wait the harder it will be when we reveal ourselves to her.”

Brettin’s lips quirk and he leans back in his seat. “I suppose you’re right. Let’s go now.” He starts to push himself up.

“Wait.” I don’t want to make Sasha feel like we’re going to pounce on her. And I have a better idea. “Why don’t we introduce ourselves to her at her next meal. We can make something nice for her to eat.”

Brettin slowly lowers himself back into his seat. “Yes, I like that. What should we make for her though?”

“She likes thetwax,”—which I’m surprised at because it’s made of larva and eggs and is an acquired taste for most species. “Perhaps she might also enjoysolesh.”

Beside me Brettin is nodding as he thinks of ways we can entice her.

“Do you think?” he asks, more to himself than to me. “That she’ll accept us? Both of us?”

I think back on the short time I spent with her. How easy the conversation between us flowed. “I think it doesn’t hurt for us to try.”

After wanderingaround the ship for a bit, I end up back in my room where I curl up on the soft bed and—since there’s really nothing else for me to do—I take a nap.

It’s been years since I’ve had the luxury to do such a thing. I can’t even remember when the last time I was able to lie down and rest because there was literally nothing else for me to do. Pfft! Probably never!

I’ve always been the type to work myself to the point of exhaustion and then a bit further because there was no one else who was going to finish what needed to be done. Even when I was ill, and really should have been resting, I would push myself.

This newfound boredom is something I have absolutely no experience with.

I’m floating comfortably in between being asleep and awake when I hear my door sliding open. Before I’m even fully alert, I’m pushing myself up and swinging my legs over the side. It takes a moment to recognize it is Vruk standing in the doorway and when he sees me blurry eyed from my nap his expression turns to worry.

“Are you feeling alright, Sasha?”

“I’m fine,” I assure him with a sleepy smile. “I must have fallen asleep. I’m just not use to not having anything to do.”

He relaxes slightly, and then strides further into the room. “Are you hungry?”

Vruk is back to being his pleasant self again. There’s no sign of the intense grump that kissed me senseless in the kitchen.

Wait, am I disappointed?

“Food sounds great!” I reply, pushing that thought out of my head.

I’m not very hungry after everything I ate earlier, but it’s not like I have anything else to do. I decide I’ll take his company, no matter what split personality I’m getting as opposed to being all alone.

His face brightens and next thing I know I’m following him down the short hall to the kitchen. When I walk through the entry, I freeze in my tracks because… Vruk is standing beside the replicator with his heavy arms folded across his chest. The short sleeves of his shirt pulling tight around muscular biceps. His steel grey eyes lock on me and I immediately recognize the grumpy Vruk from earlier.

But—wait a second! My head swings to the side, to where the more pleasant Vruk is still standing beside me. His grey eyes are soft and he’s looking down at me expectantly.

“Um,” my eyes dart between them as realization hits me. Suddenly the mood swings make much more sense.

“So, there aretwo of you?”

They both nod at the same time.

My stomach knots and I can’t help thinking back to the ship full of the Greystheyrescued me from. I swallow nervously, “Are there more than two of you?”

They shake their heads in unison and a wave of relief washes over me.
