"Now that's someone who'd actually wear one." Ryze grinned. "He'd want one made of knives he could pull out and throw. And stab people with."

"That would be practical," I said. "Something like that would suit him, except it wouldn't be very subtle." He’d looked fabulous in it, but it probably wasn’t the perfect headwear for an assassin.

Ryze chuckled. "No, it wouldn't. I might hold off on ordering one of those to be made then." He gripped my hips and helped me off so I could lie beside him.

"Can I ask you something?" I snuggled close to him.

"Anything," he said.

"Are you sure? There might be things you don't want to answer." I pulled the blankets over us.

"If that happens, I'll let you know," he said. "Otherwise, ask away."

I straightened the blankets around our feet and lay back to get comfortable. I wondered if he was as surprised to end the day in my bed as I was to have him here. I had to admit, he looked good lying there, dark hair against the pale coloured pillows. Like midnight on snow.

"How does a pack add more members?" I asked. "You said it's unusual for one person to bond with four others. How unusual are packs?"

Apparently I had more questions than even I was aware of. For every answer, I'd probably have a dozen more. Or a dozen-dozen.

Fae and human might not be that different, but throw in the whole omega thing and I had a lot more to learn. And a sneaking suspicion I'd still be learning in a decade or two.

"To answer your questions in reverse, packs are slightly less common than omegas. Some omegas prefer to be monogamous with one alpha. Some prefer one beta, except during heat. Some are lucky enough to surround themselves with several others who may be alphas, betas or omegas, like you."

"So having more than one alpha in a pack is normal?"

"It's normal in that it happens," Ryze said. "There's no right or wrong way to be a pack. They come together in whatever way works for the pack members."

"And if one member of the pack objects to another?"

"Then there's friction, but if they want to make it work, they will. Sometimes a pack member will tolerate another because they can't bear to be away from the others. Of course, it helps if everyone gets along. It's all a matter of communicating and being respectful. If either of my omegas wanted someone else that badly, it's my job to help them get what they want. For your sake or Tavian's, I'd tolerate almost anyone. Please don't tell me you've fallen for Harel?" He made a rude noise in the back of his throat.

I matched it with my snort. "Gods no. Almost anyone but."

I wouldn't go there with Hycanthe, Jezalyn or Geralda, the priestess from Ebonfalls, either. But I felt the way my body responded when Cavan touched me. I had a hard time putting it out of my head. In spite of everything, I found him intriguing.

Whether it would ever go beyond that, I didn't know. It certainly wouldn't if we found out he was playing us.

"What do we do now?" I asked. "Do we go back to the Winter Court and wait?"

"Actually, I have an idea," Ryze said.

I closed my eyes and listened to his deep, musical voice while he spoke.

Khala

Iwoke up warm, wedged between two bodies in my narrow nest. I inhaled the scent of leather and wood smoke on one side and cinnamon and apple on the other.

Ryze and Tavian.

I didn't know when Tavian slipped into the room. I had a vague memory of waking with his fingers on my clit, cock already inside me and a quick, almost frantic fuck before we both went back to sleep.

Movement caught my eye and I lifted my head as the door opened. Hycanthe peeked inside, gave me a disapproving glare and disappeared again.

Evidently, she hadn't gotten over her past prejudice against me liking sex. Or maybe it was the company I was curled up with. I dropped my head back down.

"Friend of yours?" Ryze asked sleepily.
