“Mmmm…” he moaned.

The deep timber of his voice pushed her to the edge of the cliff. More throbbing and pounding. “Oh God. Oh God. I’m going to—”

Maxton unlatched his mouth and licked his lips. “Thank you. That was very nourishing.”

MF blinked, her heart racing. “Oh, no you don’t, vampire. You finish me off.”

“You wish me to kill you?” He frowned, confused.

“Not that kind of finish. The other kind. You know—that thing you were just doing that made me feel like—”

“If I bring you to climax, your heart will stop.”

“Not true. I had my special moment on the plane.”

He cocked his head to one side. “You did?”

“It brought tears to my eyes.” She felt embarrassed telling him, but it was more important to get him to continue.

“Are you certain?”

“Yes, Maxton! I’m young, but not naïve.”Finish me!

“You climaxed and did not die. How unusual.” He looked out the window to his side, pondering.

“Hey. Can we just postpone the thinking? I’m kinda spinning right now.” She exposed her neck again.

“But I—”

“Do it, or I’ll stake you when you sleep tonight,” she growled.

He smiled but didn’t go in for another bite. “I just realized something about you.”

That I’m horny, and it’s your fault?

He brushed a lock of hair from her face. “Your parents could not have bestowed a more fitting name upon you, Mountain Flower.”

“Pfft! I’m anything but delicate or pretty. My parents were just hippies who loved nature.”Now O me, dude. Seriously!

He stared with those intense eyes. “That is not what your name means. They understood, as I now do, that your two biggest traits are your unmovable strength—like a mountain. Yet you are not afraid to feel or care. You have a kind, delicate nature. Like a flower.”

MF’s mouth slacked as his words sank in. Her parents always said they picked her name because it represented what they wanted her to be. She always thought they wanted her to be pretty and naturally feminine.

Frankly, it never made sense because that wasn’t her at all and made her feel like she wasn’t living up to their expectations. While she loved being a woman, she wasn’t demure or quiet or overtly prissy. She was more like a cactus, if you asked her. A little prickly, but pretty in its own way. But now, after all these years, this vampire had figured out what they’d really meant.

“I can’t believe I never saw it.” Tears formed in her eyes. “Thank you.”

“For?”

“For healing an old wound.” She pressed her hand over her heart. “They did see me.”

“As do I.”

MF’s heart began beating faster. She knew he could hear it. “Are you still game for that coaster of rolls?”

Maxton flashed a warm smile. “Indeed.”
