“So?” Cimil said.

Damien was back on his feet, blinking rapidly like he was recovering from a bad knock on the head. Meanwhile, the rage demon was attempting to bust through the wall.

“It’s over, Cimil,” Damien said, pushing Sky behind him protectively. One side of her blonde hair had been singed off. “You let it loose. You did this. And I am going to end it.”

“No. No. No. I want a war! I want death. And I shall have it!” Cimil yelled.

Everyone except the demon froze. The demon jumped up and down. “War! War! War!”

Strange. MF still couldn’t make out what the bugger looked like.

The guy in white underwear shook his head. “It’s your damned powers, Votan. Cimil can’t handle them. She cannot be the God of Death and War.”

“I’m realizing that,” Votan said. “But how do we switch it?”

“We have to set everything back the way it was!” Cimil spouted. “That’s what I was trying to do. We must get our powers back the way they were, which means we all go through a demon portal again.”

So that had been Cimil’s grand plan all along?

“The demon portals are closed. For good,” Votan argued.

“He,” she pointed to the rage demon, “can reopen it, but we have to give him something he wants. His own human shell so he can experience the pleasures of the physical world.”

MF and Maxton exchanged glances. She couldn’t speak for him, but she felt like they’d walked into the middle of a supernatural soap opera.

Cimil went on, “And as I’m sure you can all appreciate, if we open that portal, the demon issue will return, which is why we will need help to keep them in check. Vampires, weres, chupacabras. And yes, us gods. We must bring everyone back.”

MF noticed the demon stopped moving for a split second. The thing was the size of a hamster. Kind of looked like one, too, but without hair. It was almost…cute. That’s it? That’s the rage demon kicking the crap out of everyone?

“Maxton!” She pounced on the thing, and Maxton grabbed its body, squeezing until he heard apop!

A red Jell-O like substance went everywhere, covering them, the room, and everyone in it.

Ew.All this mess, and it didn’t even have a real body?Demons are weird.

“No!” Cimil screamed. “No! What have you done?” Cimil fell to the floor, bawling. “He was our only chance to get our old powers back. What have you done?”

“I think she foiled another one of your idiotic plans.” Damien flashed a smile at MF. “Good job, MF. Hey, you…look different.”

MF and Maxton stood up, and she flashed her shiny new fangs.

“Ah, very nice.” Damien turned to Sky, brushing her non-charred hair from her face. “Are you all right?”

“Yes, can we get out of here?” Sky asked.

“Probably for the best since the authorities outside now believe I’m running a terrorist cell with sloppy bomb-making skills.”

“Maxton and I can help with that.” MF smiled at Maxton. Maybe she could find a little snack outside, too.

“What the fuck?” Willa appeared in the doorway and dropped her martini glass. “Where’s the beast?”

“Dead,” said Votan.

Willa looked at Cimil, who was still crumpled in a ball on the floor. “We had a deal, Cimil!”

“Yes, and you idiots fucked it all up.” Cimil sobbed. “Maxton was supposed to make an army of vampires and turn my hubby, who would lead our new army. The beast was going to reopen the portal so I could get my old powers back. The gods were supposed to see what a mess everything was and come out of retirement. It was going to be perfect again.”

“What about me?” Willa growled. “What about our deal?”
