“Are you going to talk to me or sit over there and sulk all day?”

Daisy looked at Rose standing in the doorway of her office the next day. She was thankful Heather wasn’t home last night to see her puffy eyes and runny nose from bawling on her drive home.

She’d called her mother because she needed someone to talk to about what happened.

For once, her mother listened to her. Heard what she had to say. And was there for her as a mother should be.

Her mother had been equally as shocked to find out that Daisy’s father was in prison. Her mother said she’d never heard from him after he left town and didn’t bother to look.

She’d asked why and found out that her mother had been in love with John Greene. That John had made a ton of promises to take care of her and be there for her, but the minute she found out she was pregnant, he was out of there.

It seemed to her that her mother was heartbroken and that was why she’d put the wall up she had.

Why she never let another person in.

Her mother even confessed that she lost a lot of her friends dating John and that was part of her losing her childhood too.

There might be hope yet that her mother and she could get to a good spot, but last night wasn’t going to be the time to address it.

“I had a bad night,” she told Rose.

“Did you and Theo fight?” Rose asked. “You’ve got to give me something or I’m going to have to get Poppy and Lily. I’m trying my hardest to hold Poppy back. She noticed it too.”

Daisy let out a sigh. “Sorry. It’s not what you think.”

“But it’s something with Theo?” Rose asked.

“Tell me,” Poppy said, appearing in the doorway. “Rose isn’t good with tears and she doesn’t know what to ask. Come hug me. That will help.”

“I’ll start crying again,” she said. More so that her bosses cared so much.

“We’ll cry with you,” Heather said, moving into the office.

“What are you doing here?” Her best friend hugged her and she started to ball her eyes out once again.

“I called her,” Lily said. “Something is going on and we need to know so we can help.”

With the five of them squeezed into the tiny office of Daisy’s she didn’t think she was going to have much of an escape at this point. She needed to get it off her chest too.

The thought of breaking up with Theo was more devastating than what his mother did.

But how did she go on knowing that happened?

“Can you just let me say it all at once? I’m kind of shocked it even happened,” she said.

Daisy filled them all in on what Theo told her. Heather already knew how the visit with Marion went last month anyway and all the questions that had been asked.

“What a bitch,” Rose said. “I’d be pissed off.”

“I am,” she said. “But I’m hurt.”

“I’d be hurt and not pissed,” Poppy said. “She had no right to do that.”

“She didn’t,” Lily said. “But let’s backtrack. Theo told you and said he didn’t agree with anything his mother said or did, right?”

“Right,” she said.

“Then why would you throw away the best thing you’ve had in a long time because of something he seems to be siding with you for?” Heather asked.
