“I know that much,” he said. “It’s hard not to, living here.”

“Then there is Jasmine, Violet, Heather, me, Ivy who is Jasmine’s sister and her other sister, Dahlia, just moved here too and is working for Lily as her finance person.”

“That is funny,” he said.

“We think so. And your sisters have flower names,” she said.

“What?” he asked.

“There are flowers called Erica and Harmony. You didn’t know that?”

“No clue,” he said.

“Erica is like a heather flower. They come in a different range of white, pink and purples.” She pulled her phone out. “Here, this is what it looks like.”

“That’s pretty,” he said. “Long and tall, slender like my sister.”

“Harmony is a kind of iris. This is what it looks like.”

“That’s pretty. Both are shades of purple. I wonder if my mother knew that. She’s always been a fan of purple.”

“Maybe it was symbolic,” she said. “Is your mother that kind of person?”

“No,” he said. “Harmony is kind of like a hippie and she tells my mother all the time that she named her that so she might as well act it.”

“I think I’d like your sister.”

“You two would hit it off,” he said. “Trust me.”

“Arewehitting it off now?” she asked.

She turned to look at him and leaned in a bit closer. He did the same. Their mouths touched softly, then gently he eased into the kiss more until she was opening her mouth under his, his tongue slipping in and she heard herself gasp.

She couldn’t have held that back even if she wanted to. It was exactly as she’d been dreaming of. Or how she’d feel if she ever got to experience this.

When the kiss ended, her eyes must have been shut because they snapped open when he said, “I’d say we are hitting it off now.”

Put Them First

“It’s so nice to get out of the city,” Erica said when she walked through the door with Harmony.

“I’m just glad to get out of the car with Erica. She’s a horrible driver.”

“Am not,” Erica said. “You just have to move fast and get out of the way in the City. I’m used to driving that way now.”

“Not me,” Harmony said. “Hey, big brother. Dad isn’t here yet?”

“On the way,” Theo said.

After Daisy had left last Saturday, they were going to make plans to have another date during the week. They did on Wednesday night. Heather was with Luke and though Daisy felt bad, he was letting her call the shots on this and that meant going out when Heather wasn’t around.

And though Theo wanted to do something with Daisy this weekend, he was not only on call but his father had also called to say he was coming to the house for the long Labor Day weekend and then the next day both his sisters said the same thing.

“We haven’t all been under the same roof in a long time,” Erica said. “Hope we won’t bug you too much.”

“Nah,” he said. “I’m on call so who knows what is going to happen anyway. It’s not my house so it never bothers me if you’re here.”
