Reese had been a professional poker player for years. He still got in some tournaments. Or he did before Holly was born. Now she figured he was fully retired from it and focusing on his family and woodworking business.

Daisy had to remind herself that on a smaller scale, Poppy and Reese were like her and Theo. Reese’s family had much more money than Theo’s, and Poppy was worth more than her. But back when they were kids, they were in the same situation.

“I think everyone is here,” she said. Violet and Trace just walked in. Lily and Zane were here along with Jasmine and Wesley, and Ivy and Dahlia had arrived too. Rose and Thomas were home with some of the kids. She knew Rose wanted to be here, but it just wasn’t happening with Colin being extremely fussy. “Time to go in.”

“What’s going on?” Luke asked when they moved into the room. It hadn’t taken him long to see them all.

“I don’t know,” Heather said with a grin on her face. “Looks like everyone had the same idea as us to come to dinner tonight.”

“Except Rose and Thomas,” Poppy said. “They’ve got the kids.”

“They’ve got all the kids?” Luke asked.

“No,” Zane said. “My two are with Zara.”

“Cori is with Holly at Rose’s,” Jasmine said. “She said she and Thomas had it covered since Colin was fussy and they didn’t want to leave him with someone. It’s less than two hours for us. The rest of you can live it up at the bar if you want.”

“Sorry,” Heather said. “I just couldn’t resist. You wouldn’t tell me what you wanted. You said you wanted to go to dinner, and this is what I decided to do.”

He looked over at Daisy and lifted his eyebrow at her. Her jaw opened as if it just occurred to her what might be happening. Luke said he wanted the ring two days ago and that he knew when he was proposing. Could he be doing it on his birthday and now he’d have a huge audience for it?

She hoped he went through with it.

“I know what I want,” Luke said. “I planned on telling you tonight. Looks like everyone gets to see if my birthday wish comes true.”

Daisy let out a wistful sigh that it was going to happen and was almost giddy over the fact she got to witness it too.

“Sure,” Heather said sarcastically. “Now you’re going to tell me.”

Everyone had been seated now that the tables were put together. Luke looked around and pulled the box out of his pocket and slid it in front of Heather. “What I want is you. I know it seems like it's early to most. Much faster than we’ve moved before.”

Daisy started to laugh, knowing the truth about how long it’d been. Poppy said, “Be honest with us, Heather. You two hooked up at the wedding. I know it. I’ve got that Spidey sense.”

Luke turned to look at Poppy and then back to Heather. Her best friend’s face flushed, but it looked like Luke wasn’t going to admit anything.

The silence was enough for everyone to start laughing. It’s as if no one cared and it made her realize once again how much of an idiot she’d been keeping her relationship with Theo a secret too.

“Are you going to open the box?” Luke asked.

“You need to do that,” Heather said. “Be glad I don’t say you should get on your knee.”

Luke smiled at Heather. “We know I do what you tell me, but I’ll stay seated if it is the same to you.” Luke flipped the lid and showed Heather the white gold band that she’d slaved over for ten days to make sure it was perfect. The thick band was designed like the long stem of a heather flower with buds etched on it. There was a diamond solitaire in the center. “We’ve known each other for almost two years.”

“But didn’t talk for a year of it,” Heather said, smiling.

“I never forgot you and you know it,” Luke said. “I’m never going to let you go either. I’m asking you in front of all your friends and the family you’ve got here. Will you be my wife?”

Heather leaned forward and put his face in her hands. “Yes,” Heather said. “I’ll be your wife.” Luke slid the ring onto her finger. Heather looked it over and turned to Daisy. “You did a stunning job with this. Thank you so much.”

“You’re welcome,” she said. She knew Heather was aware of who had made the ring without asking. “There is no one else I would let do it. Not even Rose, even if she was working right now. Because you know, I know it all. The whole two years' worth.”

Heather wrinkled her nose at Daisy, then she turned to Poppy. “Oh, what the hell. It’s not like I’m not going to marry the man. Yes, Poppy. We did hook up at Lily’s wedding.”

Poppy pointed her finger and stood up to do a little booty dance she was famous for. “I knew it. I told Lily months ago too.”

Heather turned to look at Lily. “Did she?”

“She did. I thought it happened too but figured if you wanted anyone to know, you’d tell us. And you did.”
