Daisy watched as Luke kissed Heather. Though she was bummed she was here alone tonight she knew she had a good thing going with Theo too.

Hours later she was sitting on the couch and heard the garage door open. Theo had texted her before she even left the restaurant to say he was going into his next surgery. She hadn’t heard her phone go off as she was having so much fun but didn’t bother replying to him either, knowing he wouldn’t see it until he was done.

Then he texted her again when he was leaving and she thought that might be the sweetest thing yet.

“How was your night?” she asked when he walked in.

“Good. Long, but glad I’m home. How was yours? What did I miss?”

“You missed a really exciting night and I’m thrilled you’re here on more than one level.”

“What’s going on?” he asked, moving over to sit next to her. “You look off to me.”

“Just an odd night,” she said. “First Luke proposed to Heather at dinner in front of everyone. So though Heather planned the surprise party, she is the one that got the surprise.”

“That’s great,” he said. “Did you know it was going to happen tonight?”

“No,” she said. “But I should have figured when Luke wanted the ring a few days ago. It was so sweet watching the two of them together.”

“Sorry I missed it,” he said. “What else happened? Or are you just thinking about the big change with the engagement now?”

“No, not thinking of that so much. I’ll talk to Heather about it tomorrow I’m sure. The other news is, after we all left, Ivy and Dahlia got home and got a surprise.”

“What happened?” he asked.

“Someone broke into their place. Not just theirs, but all three of the apartments. I guess a neighbor was out with their dog and saw someone leaving out the back door dressed in all black and going around front and down the street. They didn’t think anything of it until the police arrived.”

“If they were on foot they couldn’t have taken much, right?”

“I don’t have all the facts,” she said. “I know Ivy and Dahlia’s apartment was tossed. Some jewelry was missing and money. The people that live in the other apartments were out too and they said it’s odd that not one person was there and all the apartments had the same thing happen.”

“Do they think it’s random?” he asked.

“No one is saying anything. Ivy and Dahlia are at Jasmine’s now. I’ll find out more on Monday I’m sure. It’s just, what a way to end such a good night.”

“Everyone is safe,” he said. “That’s the good thing.” He frowned. “Were you nervous being here by yourself tonight waiting for me?”

“I wasn’t really. I will admit that some noises might have freaked me a bit, but you’ve got a security system. Sorry about all the lights being on, but it made me feel better too.”

“Don’t worry about it,” he said. “Come here and hug me. I’ve been waiting all night to come home to this.”

“That is even sweeter than Luke’s proposal to Heather,” she said.

She stood up and he pulled her into his arms, gave her a hug and a kiss on the lips.

“I’m glad,” he said. “And I got thinking driving over here. I feel bad I missed the party. If Luke and Heather don’t have plans tomorrow, what do you think about them coming to dinner?”

“I think that would be great,” she said. “I’ll ask them in the morning. Thanks.”

“For what?” he asked.

“For just being there for me. For knowing what I need without me even realizing I needed it.”

“I’d like to think that you’d do the same for me,” he said. “Now let’s go to bed and get some sleep.”

“We can sleep after I show you how much I missed you tonight,” she said.

“That was my plan too,” he said.
