The doorbell rang and he went to get it. “Hey, congratulations,” he said to Luke and Heather as they came in the door. “Sorry I missed it.”

“No worries,” Luke said. “You had things to take care of. I get it.”

“I know you do,” he said. He looked down at the ring on Heather’s hand. It was even more stunning being worn than in the ring box where he’d seen it last. He took their jackets and then started to walk to the back of the house knowing they were following.

“Are you making cookies?” Heather asked. “What kind?”

“Chocolate chip,” Theo said. “I had a craving for them.”

“Yeah,” Daisy said. “When he came home he had all the ingredients.”

“Like a hint?” Luke asked. “Did you read the back of the chocolate chip package?”

“I did,” Theo said. “Luckily I didn’t have to try to make them myself.”

“Daisy is a great baker,” Heather said. “She’s a much better cook than me.”

“We both have dishes we are good at,” she said. “Theo cooks as much as I do.”

“So does Luke,” Heather said. “Guess we both got lucky.”

“We did,” she said.

“It actually worked out well,” Luke said. “I know Heather wants to talk to you about the condo and all and this way with us together you’ll know it’s the truth and she isn’t just saying it without meaning it.”

“Saying what?” Theo asked. He didn’t know where this might be going.

“That I’m not moving out any time soon,” Heather said. “Luke’s place is small. Smaller than our place. He likes the privacy of it all and being on the water. I think I like it too. It’s not like we are going to get married in the next few months. I just called my parents to tell them this morning.”

“How did they react?” she asked.

“Excited,” Heather said. “Well, my father was. My mother will come around.”

“Dare I ask why?” Theo asked. He knew Heather’s mother was a little controlling but nothing like his mother was.

“Any idea she thought that Heather might move back home is squashed now,” Luke said. “But if she wanted to go home, I’d follow her.”

“Really?” Heather asked. “Or are you just saying that because it’s safe knowing that I won’t do it anyway?”

Luke laughed. “I came back to Mystic, didn’t I?”

“Yes, you did,” Heather said. “And Luke is right. My mother still had some hopes in her head that I’d move home and I’m not sure why. She’ll be fine and then driving me nuts planning the wedding. She’ll want it in New Hampshire, but that isn’t happening. I don’t have a lot of family, just immediate family. It will be a small wedding and I want it in Mystic with the family I’ve got here.”

“As you said, you’ve got time,” Daisy said.

“And I know this goes without saying, but I want you to be my maid of honor.”

“Yes!” she shouted and hugged Heather.

“Now that that is out of the way. I’m not moving out of the condo any time soon. Luke and I talked a little last night. We want to try to find a house to buy. One on or close to the water or at least one with some space and privacy and not so close to neighbors. It could take a bit of time to find. Maybe something that needs work. That being said, I’m not moving out of the condo to his place to only pack up and move again. We’ll just continue on as we are with me splitting time there when Luke is home.”

“You’re not saying that because you’re worried I might be upset being alone?” she asked.

Theo wasn’t saying a word. He hadn’t been dating Daisy long and though he knew he was falling in love with her, they hadn’t said the words to each other yet. The last thing he could do would be to say she could stay here with him.

It wasn’t even his house. Not that he thought his father would have a problem with it, but he still wouldn’t do it. Not yet at least.

“No,” Luke said. “That is our plan right now. We’ll start looking, but with winter coming, I doubt we’ll find much on the market. We’ll see how it goes. No rush.”
