I had pulled her hair back, exposing her deliciously smooth neck to his gaze. She didn’t understand what that meant, and as she eventually calmed, my whispered words brought her to a temporary state of submission that she didn’t enjoy one single bit. I buried my nose in the crook of her neck, taking in the sweet natural aroma, any traces of mongrel and men’s body wash overpowered by the unique blend of citrus, vanilla, and cinnamon. I couldn’t help lowering my tongue to the spot, laving at the skin that was just as sweet as her aroma told me she would be. With a soft moan, she subconsciously bucked her hips as the milky scent of creamy arousal permeated the air.

I raised my head back up to study the iridescent shine of the face that had haunted my visions. I had expected to register some fear or resignation there, instead finding a look of curiosity clouded with the first signs of passion and a desire to rebel willfully. My Little Thief had a passionate side, and just as I planned to teach her to fight, I would teach her to fuck.

With an odd urge to avoid further punishment for her apparent defiance, I gently extricated my fingers from the silver strands I had entwined them in. I ran calloused fingertips along the smooth lines of her jaw, applying a subtle grip to her chin to hold it in place as my demon arose again to rumble a rhythmic purr against the breasts pressed tightly against my chest. I lowered my lips, grazing them above her own, her breath hitching as her pulse raced. As much as I wanted to plunder that willing mouth, enjoying every sensual response, I had another task I had to accomplish first, so I began whispering in the long-forgotten tongue of my forefathers, every syllable tracing lightly across the tips of her pert lips.

Her expression went entirely vacant, the previously studious gaze voiding as her pupils expanded to nearly the entire width of her irises. I continued to chant, forcing her pupils to constrict, and a glow of silver light began to ebb and flow from her eyes' almost too-pure whites. The messy depths of greenish hues had dispersed, giving way to a nearly polished mirror-like shine.

I knew these eyes, framed with a delicate fan of black lashes that splayed beautifully over skin dotted with a small sprinkling of blond freckles across the bridge of her slightly rounded nose. Her nose sat above a dimpled philtrum which led to delicate bow-shaped lips that I could picture wrapped warmly around my cock. As if on cue, my dick ached at the prospect of tasting that smart mouth, the memory of how her lips had curved when she’d called me handsome reinforcing that need.

These eyes pleased my demon more than I could have imagined, a contented stretch of his claws following the purr in my chest. The purpose of my words was to see the true nature of her soul's duality, and whether she realized it or not, another part of her existed, baring its presence to the world through those bright metallic rings.

The temptation to scoop her up into my arms and whisk her away back to my home of Sanctuarium was strong, but I had a feeling there was more to this situation that I needed to know. How she came to be here was a mystery I needed to resolve. Someone so clearly powerful that they denied the natural order did not simply pop up from a pot unless planted.

I stopped my chant but allowed my demon to continue his purr until she closed her mesmerizing eyes before rolling away to perch on the dew-covered moss beside us. I stared at her as if waiting for her to spring up with a “Gotcha!” and renew our previous sparring match. But to my disappointment, she did not, and when I was confident she was truly asleep, I called through my link to Felix.

I need you to look for an ash blond female.

Felix’s reply came quickly after that, his amused lilt ringing true even over our psychic connection.Found the new pet you were looking for?

I growled at him, and I could feel his chuckle reverberating from the keep. There are a few. Is there anything that can help me distinguish it?

5 '10, not a twig. Most likely green eyes, perhaps chartreuse.I deadpanned, keeping my anticipation to myself.

Most likely? The confusion in Felix’s tone was evident, and I could picture him squeezing his jaw between thumb and forefinger as he was wont to do when pondering.

Just look, I’ll explain later. The irritation in my command was palpable.

I waited a few minutes, my eyes still trailing up and down the delectable form next to me. It took him a few minutes to respond with two possible candidates for who she could be, both of which were to take the stage in the support candidate pool in two hours. Knowing that I would have to play by the caster's rules of claiming until I had the information I needed, I pulled her into my arms, marveling at how her silken head nestled perfectly into the hollow of my shoulder. I refused to analyze how this made my body respond, instead concentrating on finding a good place to put her back at the keep.

I tucked us both into shadows, gripping her body tighter as I stepped out onto the cobbled drive. Once I was sure the coast was clear, I lay her down on the edge of the water feature, taking one final moment to run my nose across the smooth crook of her neck, inhaling the all too intoxicating aroma. I wanted to carry it with me, the arousing scent filling me with vigor and determination, the likes of which I had not felt in centuries. I stepped back, watching her eyelids twitch open, and her head turned, meeting mine as I disappeared into the shadows again.

Chapter Four - Supernatural Runway

Aeryn

“Where the fuck have you been?!” Ness’s irate tone grated on every last vestige of my sanity as I clawed back into our shared dormitory. The cool tile floor upon which I landed felt terrific beneath my backside, and I folded sideways, resting my head on the crook of my arm.

I’m unsure how I managed to pull myself out of the front courtyard and up the seven flights of stairs to our old dormitories in the eastern tower. Every movement had felt dangerously lethargic as if I were a boat at sea attempting to break free of its anchor. My footsteps had been heavy, and I had wanted nothing more than to sink into the cool marble of the hallways in an attempt to relieve the burning flush on my skin, imprinted there by the copper irises that had watched me as I awoke laid out on the courtyard fountain. My right wrist ached and tore at my flesh as if it had turned to molten metal.

“Ryn?” All anger in Ness’s voice exchanged for wariness. She shot off her bed at my side in an instant.

“You’re cold,” she said, lifting my chin to look at my neck and chest. She frowned. “You used too much power again.”

Ness was right, of course. I flinched when she placed a hand around my left wrist, measuring my pulse as she continued to study me for injuries. Content that I was otherwise fine, she held her hands to me, palms up.

“Alright, Miss Energy Leach, take what you need.” It wasn’t a request.

I held out my hands, having long given up fighting with Ness about taking her essences, and lightly touched my fingertips to her palm with the gentlest caress I could. Immediately, I felt her natural abundance of Greed and Sloth filling the void that lingered within my soul. While nowhere near as rejuvenating as Justice or Wrath, I could happily indulge in Greed to keep myself up and active for the festivities I was no doubt about to be late for.

Once the room's heat dulled to a lukewarm caress, I lifted my fingertips away just enough for Ness to notice, the sign that she needed to pull her hands away before I could be tempted to take more. She continued to kneel in front of me as I cricked my neck back and forth, working the essences through every inch of my physical being, repleting my strength. Once I stopped, Ness narrowed her gaze, her concern gone in favor of the rising annoyance I had only begun to feel earlier.

“What the hell happened? How did you get so drained? Seriously, girl, you are the only caster that can’t replenish her natural reserves. You have to be more careful!”

A flash of fire-lit eyes that smoldered down to a warm copper filled my mind, and it took every ounce of my self-control to keep the blush from rising to my cheeks. I shrugged instead, pushing myself up to a standing position, wobbling as the rush of blood returned to my pounding head.

“Zane told me it was a quick battle. Pretty easy. Was he lying?”

I shrugged again, not willing to give her an answer, as I went to my closet.
