He may speak to the group, but the intent is directed at me. For the weeks we’ve been watching Kent, nothing out of the ordinary has happened. His routine is basic—gym, work, home, frequent nights with Tera. Throw in the occasional trip to the store and dinners out, he’s predictable.

His background is clean, which isn’t surprising with his job and clearance. All research into his personal and professional life turned over no red flags. The man is solid.

We have nothing but our hunches to tie him to any of the previous leaks. If he’s involved in moving these drugs and weapons through Tennessee, he’s operating off the grid.

“Our connection is Tera. What do you know?”

“Enough to suspect she’s playing at something with Wallace. No way she can afford her apartment much longer. Her time at my place gave her some padding, but it can’t last forever.”

The more I’ve looked into Tera, the more I want answers. Nothing makes sense. Her story about moving here for a life-changing job opportunity doesn’t sit. Unless she considers a life-changing opportunity as an administrative assistant barely scraping by. Her credit is maxed out, and her accounts are draining fast.

I fill in Robbie and Finn on my findings, the other guys already in the know.

“She tried her best to get your attention. When she crashed and burned, she set out to find a sugar daddy who happens to be our suspect in a chain of failed illegal seizures?”

“Yeah. And from what I can tell, they met the weekend of the wedding.”

“Too convenient.”

I jerk my chin in agreement with Robbie.

“Metro Nashville has a population of over one-million people. The chances of Wallace coming into our lives is highly improbable. Yet, shortly after we suspect his involvement in the drug bust, he’s standing in front of me with the woman I had to basically evict from my home.”

“Stranger things have happened. Outside of the select few, no one knows this team exists. To the world, you’re an officer with the NMPD. There is no trace back to Hayes Security.”

“What’s your point? Don’t you consider that even fucking weirder?”

“My point is you’re one of us. We got your six. In this group, we all watch out for our own. Rowan has all our protection.”

“Appreciate that.”

“Should we all hug it out now?” Talon engulfs Ace in his arms and waves. “Bring it in.”

“Get off me, dipshit.” Ace shunts him a few feet.

My lips twitch at the exaggerated rejection on Talon’s face.

“How about we go back over the chatter surrounding that warehouse?” Robbie suggests with amusement.

I glance between all men who are eyeing me apprehensively. They’re waiting for me to take lead.

“Works for me. Let’s get these assholes.”

ROWAN

I adjust the strapless bra, reaching for my dress, when his thunderous voice stops me.

“What the fuck are you wearing?”

I spin, all the air leaving my lungs. The sight of Ford is always heart-stopping, but the sight of him fresh out of the shower is another thing altogether. The scents of pine and clove fill the air, washing over me.

“I thought you were doing dinner with the girls,” he continues.

My eyes stop briefly at the ink on his chest, then roam over his sculpted abs and the water droplets beading into the towel at his waist.

“Babe, you keep looking at me like that, we cancel both our dinner plans.”
