Oh my god, is this . . . this is the best day of all time.

What’s the surprise?

Is he going to . . .

“Ta-da.” He lifts the mask.

I look around. There’s a sheer cliff face and a zip line. A man is waiting with two harnesses.

My face falls in horror. “No, no, no.” I step backward. “Henley, you are on drugs if you think I’m doing that.”

His eyes twinkle with mischief. “You can do it.”

“I could,” I splutter with bulging eyes. “But I don’t want to.”

He chuckles and takes my face in his hands and kisses me softly. “You said you love surprises.”

When I think you are proposing, you dickhead.

“Not. This kind,” I splutter.

“Babe, it’s fine. This is going to be amazing.”

“Why, because I’ll be dead in a ditch in the middle of a rainforest somewhere in the Pacific Ocean?”

“The Gulf of Thailand, actually.”

I look down over the cliff and get dizzy. I take a big step back. “Nope. No way in hell.”

“Do you trust me?” He takes my two hands in his. “Because I’m trusting you. I’m following you over the cliff every day.”

“Metaphorically.” I widen my eyes at him. “Not actually.”

“Loving you is way scarier than this.”

I swallow the lump in my throat. When he puts it like that, damn it . . . now I kind of want to do it.

“If I die . . . ,” I warn.

“I’ll take care of Barry.”

“Henley,” I splutter.

He laughs out loud. “I’ll go first.” He steps into the harness. “Come on, babe.” He holds his hand out to me. “Let’s do this.”

I twist my fingers as I look to the guide, who is patiently waiting with the harness. “Do you check the harnesses?” I ask.

“Yes.”

“How often?”

Henley chuckles and fastens his buckle. “Will you relax?”

“Says the boy who is afraid of a girlfriend,” I whisper angrily. “You are peer pressuring me into an early grave.”

Mischief is all over his face.

“Juliet.” He leans in and kisses me tenderly. “I love you. I wouldn’t let anything happen to you. Trust me.”
