My mind tumbles back to the evening in question.

And Ford.

“We definitely should.”

When there’s a burst of laughter from the table where the hockey players are crowded around, we both turn and stare. Madden and Riggs are chuckling about something. A couple girls are hanging all over Colby, vying for his attention. All he has to do is flash his dimples and the ladies on campus instantly melt. Whether they want to or not. It’s like he has a superpower.

Just as I’m about to look away, my gaze gets snagged by Wolf. Unlike most of the other guys on the team, he’s tatted up. There’s a quiet dangerousness about him. Almost broody. He’s not as quick to laughter like some of the others. I’ve noticed over the years that he tends to hang back, observing everything and everyone first.

And right now, his sights are locked on us.

Or, more accurately, they’re locked on Fallyn.

I flick a glance at the girl at my side, only to find her returning the stare with an equal amount of intensity. I wasn’t aware they were acquainted. Although Fallyn and I just met, and we don’t know each other well. Even though there’s a ton of people milling around as the music reverberates off the walls, the tension between them continues to ratchet up, turning almost suffocating.

“Do you know Wolf?”

Her gaze stays locked on him as she shakes her head. “No.”

Thrown off by the response, my brows snap together in surprise. “Really?”

My attention slices to him again. He’s still staring. There’s a strange expression on his face. As if at any moment, he’ll leap out of his seat and stalk over here. What he’ll do after he arrives is anyone’s guess.

Except…that doesn’t happen.

Instead, Larsa Middleton places her hands over his eyes as she stands behind his chair and presses her boobs against the back of his head. That’s all it takes to break the spell woven around them.

Fallyn swings around, angling her body away from the table of hockey players.

“The heat you two just generated was almost enough to have me bursting into flames,” I say lightly, hoping she’ll open up and tell me what’s going on. “You really don’t know him?” Skepticism fills my voice.

Even in the darkness of the bar, it would be impossible to miss the dull color that crawls up her neck and cheeks. “No, I don’t.”

My lips quirk. “Do you want to?”

She shakes her head.

Hmm. Even more interesting.

Most of the girls on this campus have a thing for the guy and would jump at the chance to sleep with him. He’s the broody bad boy of the team.

From the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of Ford shoving his way through the crowd and decide it would be best to hightail my ass into gear.

Cutting off our convo, I point toward the exit. “It was great running into you, but I’ve got to head out.”

Disappointment crashes over her features. “Oh, okay. I’ll text you later.”

“Sounds good.” With that, I swing away, slipping through the sea of drunken students to the back of the bar. Once the cool night air hits my cheeks, relief pumps through me as I beeline toward my BMW parked in the lot.

Even though Ford and I drove over together, he’ll have to find his own way home.

Chapter Twenty-Six

Ford

“Dude, that hat trick was freaking awesome! With the number of shots you took on goal, you should have had at least three of them.”

My attention flickers to the guy who just slid in front of me, effectively blocking my path to Carina.
