Her breath is warm against my cheek. “Andrei…”

I pull her in a little closer. Her knife-wielding hand falls to her side, conflict etched into the delicate features of her face. When she leans against me, every inch of my body suddenly comes alive. A deep, dark hunger stirs in the pit of my stomach. An insatiable craving. I thought I could fight this feeling. I thoroughly believed I could push these thoughts aside. But now I’m starting to believe I was always doomed to fail.

Logic tells me to go. This is insane. I’m seconds away from kissing Sandra, and this time, I have no intention of stopping. She isn’t my prisoner anymore—just the last woman I should ever think about having. I don’t know what compels me to say it, but the words come rushing out before my brain has the chance to kick in and stop me.

“There’s a hotel,” I murmur against her ear. “About five blocks from here. The Barovsky. Meet me in an hour?”

When she looks at me, I fully expect to see confusion. Anger. Disgust. Instead, her cheeks are flushed and her pupils are wide, those pretty full lips parted just so in obvious arousal. I have never seen a woman more beautiful in my entire life.

Sandra nods, just once, before she breaks away and disappears into the crowd.

Chapter 13

Sandra

“I’msopickled.” Charlotte laughs loudly as Vance and I help her to the car. One of our drivers is already waiting by the curb, the SUV’s engine rumbling steadily.

“Take her home,” I tell her bodyguards. “Make sure she’s got plenty of water and an aspirin at her bedside. I have a feeling she’s going to need it tomorrow morning.”

Charlotte manages to give me a quizzical look. “Wait, you’re not coming with me?”

“I have some… business to take care of.”

“Business? What kind of business?”

“Family business, Cee.”

“I’m family.”

“Yes, you are.”

“You need a fucking vacation, Sandy. All work and no play makes Sandy a dull girl.”

I roll my eyes. “I’ve only been at this for a week, babe.”

Charlotte throws her arms around me, hugging me tight while resting her cheek against my shoulder. “You’re working too hard. What if you have a heart attack, too?” Her eyes start misting, the softest of sobs bubbling past her lips.

Uh oh.

In the blink of an eye, my twin starts to bawl her eyes out. She always gets very emotional when she drinks, which is why I try to avoid it when I can. If she’s an emotional drunk, then I’m fairly certain our identical genetics means I might be an emotional drunk, too.

I pat her on the back, hushing her gently. I know she’s been just as worried about Dad as I have. “It’s okay, Cee. I’m not going to have a heart attack. Besides, Dad said he’s feeling much better. It was just a spot of bad luck.”

“Y-you promise?”

“I promise.” I kiss her cheek. “Go home and get some rest, okay?”

“Okay…”

I make sure Charlotte gets into the car safely before turning to Vance. “You’ve got a second car on standby, right?”

He nods. “Yes, ma’am. Where would you like to go?”

I hold my breath, chewing on the inside of my cheek in quiet contemplation. I’m more than a little aware of how crazy this is. For all I know, Andrei could be setting me up for a trap. But there’s an itch in my veins I just can’t scratch, and I have to confess I’ve been dying to feel his body pressed against me again. My brain tells me to go home, but the heat pooling in my core tells me to give Andrei a chance.

I’m probably going to regret this later, but…

“The Barovsky,” I say. “Take me there. Park the car outside and wait for me. My meeting shouldn’t take long.”
