“You’re very stubborn.” His voice cracked. “Are you always this hard-headed?”

“Usually.” I cleared my throat. “I think you should kiss me.”

“Kokou…”

I wrapped my fingers against the back of his neck and pulled his mouth to mine.

At first, Daniel hesitated.

Then I nipped at his bottom lip with my teeth.

He growled and shoved his togue between my lips, clouding my senses and making my whole body trembled.

Moaning, I pressed my chest to his, giving up my control, wanting this kiss to last forever.

CHAPTER7

Daniel Archer

“They don’t know her.”Reaper explained the next day. “According to him, they were hired to kill the teacher.”

“Just to kill her?” I asked. “Why did they torture her?”

“There were rumors that she was hiding a large sum of money in the house.” Reaper replied. “Apparently, Sherine’s parents died last fall in a car accident. They were well off. Because they were rich—”

“These idiots thought she had money sitting around.” Kokou muttered.

“Right.” Reaper confirmed. “They were trying to get her to tell them where the money was in the house. They couldn’t find it.”

“That would explain the mess of the place.” Daniel pointed out. “I don’t know why they thought she’d be keeping the money at home.”

“The joke’s on them.” Reaper continued. “Her parents disowned her when she walked away from the family business. There was no money.”

“Damn.” I muttered. “She was a teacher—she had no big sum of money hidden in that house.”

“They were still trying to get the information out of her when the other guy got carried away.” Reaper continued. “He accidentally suffocated her before she could tell them.”

“Did he say who hired him?” Kokou wanted to know.

“They have no clue.” Reaper frowned through the camera. “The person found them online on some message board. Swede is digging through it now. I swear to God, sometimes I wish the internet was never invented.”

After the video call was over, Kokou and I fell into silence.

It seemed as if we were right back where we started. Nothing came out of the search in the backgrounds of the people around me. Aside from one person who was arrested when he was sixteen years old for crashing his mustang into the side of a library, there really was nothing dangerous.

“You want to talk about it?” I asked Kokou after she turned to leave me alone in the room.

“It?”

“We kissed, Kokou and afterward it’s almost like you can’t be in the same room with me.” I pointed out. “You kissed me first, remember?”

“I remember.”

“And you can’t expect to kiss me and have me not kiss you back.”

“You could have pushed me away.”

“Now, why would I do that?” I shrugged. “I wanted to kiss you. But I probably shouldn’t have. I was never good at reading the signs. Hence the baby with someone who didn’t want one.”
