“What would have happened if those people had taken—” Jack paused.

“Kennedy.” I informed him. “I named her Kennedy.”

“Right.” Jack glared at a snivelling Cassandra. “What happens if they’d taken Kennedy? Could you say for sure they wouldn’t hurt her? And what if during one of their attempts, something had gone wrong? Did you even think of that?”

“Please…” She cried.

“No.” Jack shook his head. “I’m done helping you. You’ll be getting divorce papers as soon as my lawyer can get them together. And if you think you’re getting a penny of my money—”

“You owe me!” Cassandra shrieked. “I am your wife!”

“Correction.” I spoke up. “You were his wife—and I can’t think a man like this would walked down the aisle without a pre-nup.”

Kokou moved to stand between Cassandra and myself. I wasn’t sure why she did so until Cassandra screamed and made for me. To my shock, Kokou grabbed her by her ponytail and yanked her backward.

She flew across the room and crashed into the wall.

I glance down at my Rolex.

“Five minutes.” I told her.

Kokou walked over to her and hunched down by her side. Though Cassandra was moaning in pain, at least she’d stopped that god-awful fake sobbing she’d been doing earlier.

Her hair was now a mess and Kokou used a finger to push a few strands of hair from her forehead.

“I’m not entirely sure if you woke up this morning and chose stupid.” Her voice was a thunderstorm. “I don’t even know why you thought I was going to let you put your hands on him.”

“He’s letting a woman fight his battles for him now?” Cassandra pushed. “You’ve fallen, Daniel.”

“Let her?” My eyes widened. “Try that again and you’ll learn quickly no oneletsKokou do anything.

“Hey!” Kokou patted Cassandra’s cheek a few times. “I’m going to need you to have your listening ears on because I’m only going to say this once. Daniel and Kennedy Archer are off limits. Come after them again, and when I’m through, there won’t be enough of you left for the vultures to feed on.”

“Is that a threat?” She asked.

A dark smile traced Kokou’s beautiful lips as she used her index finger to tilt Cassandra’s chin up.

“I have no patience for threats.” Kokou explained. “But whatever works for you. Just know that if they so much as cough funny—I’m coming.”

Someone knocked and we all turned to look at the door.

The receptionist stuck her head in.

“Sir, the police are here.” She reported.

“Send them in.” Jack instructed her.

I turned to look at Cassandra who looked as though her world had imploded in hell and bullshit.

“Time’s up.” I told her.
