“Is anyone watching your son now?”

“Yes. But that’s just temporary until I can find someone else.” I replied.

“Okay.” She allowed herself a drink. “I’ll get back to you.”

Offering her one of my cards, with my cellphone number scribbled on the back, I exhaled.

“And you don’t have to cook tonight.” I told her. “Take Levi for dinner atDebutanton me.”

“It’s impossible to get a seat at that place.” Seema shook her head. “Levi and I tried getting a table there four months ago and they told me their waiting list is a year long.”

I smirked at her and pulled out my cell.

“Carter Finch.” Mae Lin Chu greeted me. “How are you?”

“I’m good but I need a favour.”

“Anything.”

“You got a table for tonight?” I asked.

“For you? Of course, big brother. Are you finally bringing a good woman to meet me?”

I blushed. “No, nothing like that. A friend of mine and her friend want to have a good meal tonight after a hard day.”

“Say no more. Give me names.”

“Seema Lipson and Levi Franklin.”

“I will have a table ready for them.” Mae Lin promised. “Tonight at eight?”

“You’re a doll.”

“You’re only saying it because it’s true.” She giggled. “And tell that very handsome God-son of mine that I do have some time this weekend for Shenanigans.”

“He’d love that. Thanks Mae.”

When I turned to face Seema again, she shook her head.

“Of course, you know the owner of one of the most exclusive restaurants in the city.” Seema shrugged.

“She’s my son’s God-mother.”

Seema laughed.

“Be there for eight.” I told her. “Your name will be at the front.”

Stepping intoDebutantwas like stepping into another world. While this wasn’t the restaurant we would usually eat at, my birthday was coming up and Levi wanted to treat me. I didn’t think my birthday was a big deal, but after being friends with Levi for as long as I had been, I don’t argue anymore.

That was one of the things I’d come to learn I’d never win.

Carter had sent a private car to pick us up—I was assuming his friend did a search and figured out where I lived.

I needed to speak to him about that.
