Shaking my head, I killed the engine and stepped from the car while calling Mae Lin. Mere moments later, she opened the doors to allow us in.

By the time lunch was over, Mae Lin and Levi were having so much fun, I left him there after she promised to give him a ride or call a car to take him anywhere he wanted afterward. The two of them barely noticed when I told them I was leaving.

Mae Lin waved at me without even looking up.

Levi blew me a kiss.

Laughing, I exited the restaurant, ensured the door locked behind me and set out on my way back home.

I called Charlie.

“What was that?” He asked.

“That was Levi.” I told him. “Seema’s best friend?”

“Damn. I didn’t know.” Charlie sighed. “Is he okay? That’s not the way anyone want to go through a breakup.”

“I don’t think anyone wants to go through a breakup.” I intoned. “But that was fucked up. But he’ll be okay. Nothing a little Mae Lin loving can’t cure.”

“Mae Lin knows him too?”

“Yes, but she knows him as Soli Darity—the Drag Queen? Now they’re best friends.”

Charlie laughed. “You heading home?”

“Yeah—Tex sent me a text earlier and it sounds a little ominous.”

“Tex is one big ominous.”

I chuckled. “Facts. I’ll call you when I get a chance later.”

“Okay—I’ll be here.”

After hanging up from him, I ordered the Bluetooth to call Goddess.

“Hi.” Her voice was soft and warm.

“Are you busy?” I asked.

“Not really. Just got the boys home.” She replied. “Dillon is upstairs doing homework. Why?”

“I don’t want you to panic.” I exhaled. “But I’m being followed.”

“Where are you?”

After I told her, I could hear her moving and shouting for my son.

“Lock the door after me.” She was saying. “Don’t open it unless it’s myself or your father. If you hear anything, you grab that phone, go into the bathroom and lock the door and get into the tub. And you stay until you see me—understand?”

“What’s going on?” Dillon asked.

“I’ll explain later.”

The line disconnected then, and I held my breath, forcing myself to keep pretending as if I didn’t see the truck behind me that was making every turn I made. It was about five minutes later before I noticed a familiar-looking truck behind the one that was following me.

I eased up on the gas, just as the truck behind me jerked forward.

Not sure what was happening, I switched lanes and slowed down to see that Seema was driving my truck and had the front of it flushed against the back of my stalker’s vehicle.
