“I can make time for this.” Wolf replied. “What do you need?”

“Tex is going to find out where—” I paused, snapping my fingers toward Charlie and Carter.

“Audrey.” Charlie offered.

“Right—where she is.” I continued. “Once he’s done that, I want you to follow her around, find out who she meets with that sort of thing.”

Wolf nodded. “Solnishkowill understand.”

“What’s a Solnishko?” Carter asked.

“It’s a nickname for my wife.” Wolf beamed obviously proud of himself.

I licked my lips, remembering Carter had called me Goddess. He stared at me—that knowing look in his eyes that there was a secret only the both of us had.

As my cheeks heated, I straightened my spine, trying to keep my focus.

“While that is happening, Tex, I need you to find out everything you can about her since the divorce.” I picked up. “Also, keep an eye on the dark web. That’s where the woman has been finding her hires. There’s something there, we just aren’t seeing it.”

“Got it, boss lady.” Tex offered a mock salute.

“Duke, we’ll have you on standby,” I carried on. “There may come a time when we’ll need some backup.”

“What about the boys?” Charlie asked.

“For now, they stay put.” I looked over at Carter who nodded. “Once we have more information and is ready to make a move, we might have to get you, Charlie to take them away for a little bit. We hide the boys now and they’ll know we’re on to something tangible.”

“I’ll be ready.” Charlie promised.

“In the meantime, I need all of you to get some rest.” I glanced toward Carter again. “Because we just might need it.”

With that, the group dispersed. None of them had parked around the house, just in case we were being watched.

When everything was quiet, I took Carter’s hand and led him to the pool.

“Strip.” I ordered while peeling myself out of my clothes to my bra and panties.

Slipping into the pool, I turned to watch him take his clothes off then wearing just his boxers, he climbed into the water with me. He immediately wrapped his arms around me, drew me into his chest and pressed his face into my neck.

He exhaled, hot against my skin, but I knew he was trying to refuel.

Sliding my wet palms around him, I held onto him, tighter and tighter until he moaned. When he did, I moved one hand up to the back of his head. The other hand, I used to caress his back.

When he finally eased back, it was to smile at me, his eyes filled with a little more life than before.

“Thank you.” He told me.

“For what?”

“This.” He used a finger to poke my nose. “I’ve never been able to be this way with a woman before. With them, I always feel as if I have to be on, all the time. Society tells me that I’m supposed to be the protector, and no one ever contemplated that sometimes, I may need protecting.”

“And you’re okay being protected by a woman?”

“Not just any woman.” He smiled. “A wasp.”

I grinned.

“It’s strange, you know?” Carter asked. “But I don’t want to lose that.”
