“I’m sorry, what?”

“You heard me, son.”

“Why do I have to do it?” he cries.

“Remember a few weeks ago, when you spilled Maddie’s paint? This is your punishment. You didn’t think I forgot, did you?”

“No, but I was hoping you did,” he grumbles.

“Get to work, Ironman. Your sister can help if she wants to.”

Madison’s eyes widen when she hears that. She had been trying her best to be quiet throughout the conversation. She looks from her brother to her father uncomfortably before clearing her throat.

“I don’t do dishes.”

Xander laughs. “Your choice, princess.”

The twins stare at each other. They do their whole telepathic thing that never ceases to freak me out. Finally, Madison sighs.

“Fine! I’ll help you, Mase.”

Her brother grins and they both exit the dining room together.

“At least she’s loyal,” their father notes.

I smile. “Excellent parenting, Mr. Callahan.”

He shrugs. “I try my best. Let’s just hope nothing goes wrong.”

“Do you think we should supervise?”

He shakes his head. “It’s alright. They’re smart enough to figure it out. We have plans.”

“Right, swimming. My deepest, darkest fear,” I say on a sigh.

“Let’s hope I’m able to turn that around.”

He gets to his feet and it’s then I realize I forgot an important detail.

“Oh shit, I forgot to bring my swimsuit.”

“You forgot?”

I groan. “I’m sorry, I have a lot on my mind.”

He studies me for a moment before letting out a breath. “Wait here, I’ll go get you something to wear.”

“Oh, that’s not necessary,” I tell him.

He stares at me. “Would you rather swim naked?”

There’s something about the way he looks at me that tells me he wouldn’t mind that option. My entire body heats at his perusal.

“No,” I quickly say.

I catch a smile as he turns back around.

“I’ll get you something to wear, Juliette. Just wait for me.” He pauses just before exiting the room, though. “Or you could come with me to my room.”
