Julia knew everything about my past. She’d been at my side as I healed from my wounds both physical and emotional. Like Ezra, her friendship had made me stronger. But that didn’t mean I wanted her gatecrashing my engagement.

“I’m supposed to be capturing the moment, but since you’ve yet to accept, it’s a little hard.”

I chuckled and shook my head. I turned to Ezra looking deeply into his beautiful eyes. “Yes,” I told him.

He grabbed me in his arms, spinning me around as I laughed in glee. I hoped that Julia captured the sheer joy of the moment on her camera—a new hobby she’d picked up now that her dancing career was over.

“I hate to bust up the happiness,” Marcel said. “But there are like a hundred people waiting for you.”

I sighed; the moment slightly dulled by the reality of our situation. I loved Ezra, and I would stick by him no matter what, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that the idea of being a politician's wife made my stomach twist.

Ezra pressed a kiss to my cheek. “We can celebrate more tonight,” he whispered salaciously, and I immediately felt the junction between my thighs grow wet.

Marcel rolled his eyes, and Julia giggled.

Normally, I would have been embarrassed, but I wasn’t. I took Ezra’s hand and prepared to enter the fray with him knowing that our lives were about to change forever. Not that it mattered, if we were together, I was sure we could weather any storm.

After all, I’d escaped death twice to be by his side, so something as small as him becoming mayor wasn’t going to deter me.

“I love you,” he mouthed.

The words sent a warmth through me that I’d never experienced before. Our lives weren’t perfect. Whose were, but whatever came next, we would weather it. Together.

The End.
