He chuckles, and I feel it vibrating through me, “I think that’s the nicest thing you’ve said to me since you came to stay with me.”
Jake walks back in and shows me his drawing. I gasp, “It’s so beautiful.”
It’s the most stunning butterfly I’ve ever seen. The outer edges of its wings are black, but it gradually fades into dark blue, the closer it gets to the middle of the butterfly, the wings have a bright blue hue, like the sunlight is shining through.
“It’s breathtaking.”
He smiles, “Okay follow me.”
We walk into the room, and he hands me clothing that looks like scrubs, “Change into these. We’ll be right outside.”
When they both step out, I get changed quickly.
I set my clothes on the counter and open the door, “I’m ready.”
“I need you to sit backward on the chair, lean over it with the shirt hiked up just under your breasts, and your pants pulled down to your hips. Normally, I would require your shirt off. But today, I’m all sensitive and shit.”
“How bad is this going to be?” I ask as I sit as instructed.
He chuckles, “It will hurt. It’s a tattoo but it's a moderate pain. There are few nerve endings on your lower back, so it shouldn’t be terrible. No moving. If it becomes too much, tell me and we’ll take a break.”
Hunter pulls up a chair to face me and sits with my hand in his, rubbing his thumb in circles on my palm. I take a deep breath as he starts the tattoo.
CHAPTER TWELVE
HUNTER
When she lets me in it’s the most beautiful thing in the world. I try to talk to her to distract her from the pain. “Do you remember the day we met?”
She smiles slightly, “As if I could forget.”
“You were on the top of the big slide on the playground. You were five and I was six. Somehow you got up there, but you were too afraid to come down.”
Jade is careful not to move, but I see the memory makes her happy.
“You climbed the slide and sat behind me, you put your arms around me, holding me tight. When you whispered, ‘I’ve got you. I won’t let anything happen to you,’ I think I fell in love with you then. I was enamored.”
I stare into her eyes, she stares into mine, the air is thick with something I can’t define. I don’t notice Jake setting the tattoo gun down or leaving the room. All I see is Jade. My world begins and ends with her.
Slowly, I drag my fingers from her wrists, up her arms to her shoulders, “You’re so beautiful, baby.”
Her eyes close, she looks lost in pleasure, and fuck it does things to me.
Placing both of my hands on either side of her face, I tilt her head back slightly, I lick the seam of her lips before pulling her bottom lip between mine and suck, eliciting a moan from her.
When I pull back slightly, her glazed eyes meet mine, “Hunter, take me home.”
I collect the extra Tegaderm dressing he left for her. I don’t bother with the cream that she'll need to keep it moisturized since I have all of it at home. “Let’s go.”
I leave cash on the counter to pay Jake for the tattoo and then help her out of the chair.
“Does it hurt?”
Jade shakes her head, “Not really. A little tender but it’s not terrible.”
I take her to the car and help her get in, before walking to my side and getting into the driver’s seat.
She’s quiet for most of the drive back to my house, staring out the windows, lost in her mind.
