When I wakethe next morning, he’s gone as he said he would be. I climb out of bed and take a shower before heading downstairs to find something to eat. Looking at the time I’m shocked to see that it’s almost lunchtime. The phone on the counter is lit up, so I take a look at it. I haven’t had access to a phone in a very long time. So, it takes me a while to figure it out but when I do, I open the text messages.

The first one I see is from Hunter.

Hunter:Be a good girl today. I’ll bring you home a present.

I laugh and back out of it and see a text from Willow.

Willow:Hey girl. The boys are working today. What are you up to?

I figure out how to reply quicker than I expect.

Me: Nothing. I’m going to try to find something for lunch and watchFriends, I guess.

Willow:Let’s go out for lunch. I’ll pick you up.

Me:Bad idea. I’m not allowed to leave. Hunter would be furious.

Willow:No. It’s fine. I have a guard. He wants you to be safe. It’ll be fine.

Me:I don’t know. Things are good between us. I don’t want to piss him off.

Willow:Trust me. With me you’re fine. He just wants you to be safe. My guard is armed. Max would be the same way if I went off alone.

Me:Okay. I hope I don’t regret this.

Willow:You won’t. I’ll be there in twenty minutes. I can get in.

I run to the bathroom and pull my hair into a high ponytail. Looking in the mirror, I decide the jeans and T-shirt I’m wearing are fine for lunch.

On my way back downstairs, I decide to text Hunter and let him know what I’m doing so he doesn’t freak out.

Me:I’m going to lunch with Willow. She has a guard, so I assume it’ll be okay. She swears you won’t be mad. I’ll come right back, I promise. I’m not running. Miss you.

Willow walks in as I stare at the phone with no response. He’s busy. I’m sure that’s why he hasn’t responded.

I place the phone back on the counter as she smiles, “Ready?”

Nodding, I blow out a big breath, “Yes. Let’s do this.”

Walking outside with Willow is strange. I’ve only been out when we went to dinner and the tattoo shop. She has a black Mercedes SUV. When she opens the back door for me, I slide in, and she gets in beside me.

“Gage, this is Jade.”

He glances at me in the rearview mirror, “Hi.”

As he drives, I whisper to Willow, “He saw me naked. This is weird.”

I’m met with a shocked expression before she schools her features, “What?”

“He was there when Hunter found me. I was naked, chained to a wall.”

Willow grabs my hand and squeezes, “He’s not thinking about that. If he did, Hunter would kill him.”

I stare out the window as we drive by. “Where are we going?”

“Lestancia’s. They have an adorable outdoor patio.”
