“For the love of—!” The boy threw his hands up while Reese started laughing his ass off. “I’m dating two trolls!”

I buried my grin in the soft crook of his neck and nipped at his flesh. Our poor boy—he didn’t stand a chance against us. On the other hand, he could consider this payback for how he’d reached into our chests and squeezed the fuck out of our tickers.

“You can’t seduce me with neck kisses.” He scoffed at me.

“Are you sure?” I flicked the tip of my tongue over his skin.

He pulled his blanket higher up, as if he needed to protect himself, and he narrowed his eyes at me.

Fucking beautiful.

This was exactly what I wanted tonight. Just the three of us, a movie or two running in the background, sweatpants, popcorn, our big couch…

Something changed in his gaze. Either he was trying to figure out a math problem, or he—

“You were different tonight, Sir.” He smiled curiously. “It just hit me—when Aunt Mel asked if you wanted more coffee, youaccepted.”

I exhaled a laugh while Reese chuckled. That was definitely not what I was going to guess.

I shrugged a little and draped an arm behind him, along the back of the couch. “I enjoyed myself. Your aunt’s fun.”

“Plus, she has all the dirt on you,” Reese said.

Shay snickered and shifted closer, and he pressed a kiss to my jaw before he settled against my side and faced Reese. My brother’s lap became the landing zone for Shay’s legs, and he gathered my arm down his chest.

I slipped my hand under the blanket and brushed it over his smooth skin.

“Since she’s given you all the embarrassing childhood memories, maybe you can give me a better story time now,” he said. “I wanna hear more about your years as PMCs.”

Reese and I exchanged a glance, and I shook my head.

Not tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

He offered Shay a rueful little smile and leaned over to kiss him. “Another time. I think River’s got something else planned.”

Oh good, he’d picked up on that.

I swallowed a sudden burst of nerves before I shook my head again, at myself this time, and decided I had nothing to worry about. Because whether Shay was ready to say it back or not, I had all the patience in the world, and I wanted him to know, regardless of where he stood. I knew Reese felt the same.

Shay tilted his head back and glanced up at me with the same curiosity as before. “Is it another kind of story time? Maybe something filthy?”

I chuckled and combed back his hair with my fingers. “No filth, I’m afraid. It’s not much of a story either.”

Reese hummed and left a trail of kisses along Shay’s chest. “He’s great at building up the suspense, isn’t he?”

Shay grinned and squirmed, perfectly wedged between us. Where we wanted him.

I dipped down and brushed my lips to his. “We just wanted to say that we love you.”

The gravity hit me the second the words were out, a heartbeat before I saw the shock in Shay’s eyes—same moment Reese sighed contentedly.

I could count the people I’d said I love you to on one hand, and I was related to all of them.

“So fucking much,” Reese murmured.

Shay swallowed hard, then scrambled out of the embrace and onto my lap. He threw his arms around me and squeezed me tight, and I couldn’t describe the sweet fucking ache. The relief, the sense of…this is it.

“I love you too.”
