Remi: What? I wanted to talk to you first.

Remi: Ugh, please be careful with him. Ghost is very vulnerable.

Remi: Be angry with me, not him.

I read each text and then looked up at Ghost, who was watching me with interest. Remi was protecting him again, and it definitely piqued my jealousy.

“What’s your room number?” I asked.

He slid his feet off the coffee table. “822. Why?”

I began texting back to Remi. “Because I’m asking her to join us.”

Ghost expression hardened. “You’re going to make her choose?” he spat out.

“Between us? Nah. She already chose me.” I gave a smug smirk. “I can give her what she wants — commitment and love. She doesn’t think she can get that from you.”

I could feel Ghost’s rage radiating off of him as he scowled at me. “So you’re just rubbing it in my face?”

“No,” I answered cooly, gazing down at the new text message from Remi.

“She’s on her way. She’s rushing over here to protect you.” I looked up at him. “She thinks we’re fighting.”

He exhaled sharply, shaking his head in frustration. “What are we doing?” he asked gruffly, his voice deepening with anger. “Just go. I don’t want to talk — to either of you. Just go.”

“We’re not going to talk,” I clarified, a smirk tugging at my lips as a plan began to form in my mind.

“What are we doing, then?” His question was laced with suspicion.

“We’re going to give her what she wants.” I shrugged nonchalantly, letting the words hang in the air between us.

“Which is?” He narrowed his eyes as he crossed his arms.

I hesitated before finally admitting, “The both of us. We’re going to seduce her.”

Surprise crossed his face for a moment before he scoffed incredulously, “What the fuck are you talking about, Grey?”

This was a wild shot in the dark and if I looked as nervous as I felt, it was never going to work. I’d have to project a hell of a lot more confidence than I actually had in this plan. This would be the acting job of my life and a whole lot was at stake for me.

There was a knock at the door. I raised my eyebrow. “You better bring your A game, Parker.”

I left him sitting on the couch as I went to answer the door. Remi had changed into jeans and a sweatshirt, but she still looked stunning. I blocked the door so I could talk to her for a few moments without Ghost hearing us.

She chewed on her lip. “What’s going on?”

I smiled to reassure her. “I know you have feelings for Ghost, Rems. And I suspect he has feelings for you, though he’s shit at expressing his emotions.”

She shook her head as if denying it. “Grey, that doesn’t matter. I thought you came to Boston to talk about you and me. Do we still have a chance at a future?”

If I were a smart man, I’d take Remi’s hand and lead her back to her room. Since I’d seen her again, she’d signaled that she would take me back. We could resume our relationship where we left off. I could stake my claim and not think twice about Ghost again. But after the kiss Ghost and I shared in the car, I knew I could never go back into denial about my feelings for him.

“Rems, there’s something I need to tell you,” I spoke low, so there was no way Ghost could hear me. “Ghost is the man I was telling you about. The man I’ve been conflicted about for so long.”

Her eyes widened in disbelief and her jaw dropped. She covered her mouth with both hands and let out a gasp of surprise. “Ghost? He’s the one? Oh my God!”

I grabbed her hand to pull her toward me and into the room. I leaned in to whisper into her ear, “And he doesn’t know it. Not yet, anyway.”

Her gaze darted between me and Ghost, who was seated across the room on the couch. A rosy flush spread across her cheeks as she clenched my hand in an iron grip.
