Her hand, which was resting on my chest, tightened as she let out a little shriek of alarm. She tried to pull away, but I didn’t let her go.

My voice was rough with sleep. “I can’t help it if you snuggled up to me.”

Her body stiffened. “I did not! You obviously came over to my side of the bed.”

I lifted my head to look. “Uh, we’re clearly on my side of the bed, gorgeous.”

“You probably pulled me over here!”

“Uh-huh.” Wow, I really enjoyed ruffling her feathers. “How are you feeling this morning?”

“Much better. But, I’m starving.”

I didn’t want to let her go, but the longer we laid like this, the harder it would be to get my dick to calm down. “Okay, let’s get you some food and then head out.”

She sighed like she didn’t want to get up either, but then she untangled from me and rolled out of bed. She was wearing a pink tank top with matching sleep shorts that showed off her body to perfection. Her hair was tousled and her face clean of all makeup, but she’d never looked more beautiful. Fuck, Lacey, what were you doing to me?

When we were ready to leave the room, I had to help wrangle her many loose bags, but she never commented on my terrible packing. We never found her other high-heeled shoe, so she left the one behind like Cinderella. We ate at a breakfast buffet, and I was happy when she ate a decent amount. It was obvious she was feeling much better.

We sat in companionable silence for most of the ride home with the music playing on low.

We were closing in on the outskirts of Los Angeles when she turned to me. “Should we talk about it?”

My fingers nervously tapped on the steering wheel of the rental car. “We’re friends. We don’t have to make a big deal about this, right?”

She let out a little huff of air. “It’s kind of a big deal. Marriage. At least it is to me.”

I sat silent for a minute. “Do you think we did?”

She bit her lip. “I’m not sure.”

“There’s no way anyone would marry us when we were so damn drunk. There’s got to be some rule about that. We were plastered, Lace.”

She shrugged her shoulders. “I just searched it on the internet. It takes about ten calendar days for a Nevada marriage certificate to be filed. I guess we’ll know then.”

I kept sneaking glances at her, trying to gauge her mood. “If we did do something crazy, don’t panic. We’ll just get it annulled and it’ll be like it never happened. For now, let’s just keep calm.”

She was avoiding my gaze, staring out the side window. “I’ll have my lawyers look into it.”

When we got to her building, I pulled up to the curb at the front entrance and helped her remove her bags.

She looked upset.

I held out my arms. “C’mere, beautiful.”

She stepped into my arms without hesitating.

I held her close, inhaling her scent. “Everything’s going to be okay.”

“Promise?”

“I promise.” I pulled back and then kissed her forehead.

She gathered her bags and then headed into the building. She turned back as she opened the door. “Thank you for taking care of me.”

“You’re welcome.”

“See ya later, Sebastian.”
