She walked over to where I was standing and handed me a bottle of water. “I know who he is.”

My jaw clenched. Of course, she did. She knew every musician in this town and then some. Noah was a complete womanizer. I wondered if he’d fucked Lacey and the thought pissed me off.

She walked into the living room and I followed like a puppy dog. She didn’t bother turning on any more lights, but she did pick up a remote control and turned on the fireplace.

I was staring at her ass and I only ripped my eyes away just in time before she caught me. She was wearing a pajama set, a black silk camisole that had spaghetti straps with matching shorts. Sexy lace decorated the neckline of the top and the hem of the shorts. She’d been showing more skin in what turned out to be her wedding dress in Vegas than in these pajamas, but I could see her nipples pebbling beneath the silk and my mouth went dry. Fuck, she was so hot. I never saw her with no makeup on and her hair not perfectly styled. She was so fucking gorgeous.

She broke the silence. “You smell like cheap perfume.”

What could I say to that? Carrie had been rubbing up against me all night.

Her eyes narrowed as she looked me over. “What is that pink all over you?”

Why did I feel so guilty? “There was some girl with face paint on. It was a blacklight thing.”

“Are you drunk?” her voice was biting. “You hooked up with some girl, and what? She turned you down, so you came here? Or, you decided to come here for a second round?”

Damn, she sounded just like a nagging wife, and it ticked me off. “Actually, I turned her down. Just like I have all the other damn girls for the past month. Because I’m fucking married.”

She laughed like she didn’t believe a word I said and it got me even angrier.

“It’s not funny. I need to speed up this divorce because apparently, I can’t break my wedding vows. Some of us have morals.”

“Oh, give me a break,” she scoffed. “Bash, I give you my permission. You can break the wedding vows all you want. Is that what you need?”

Fuck. My chest rose and fell with rapid breaths. “What I need is a goddamn divorce!”

I immediately regretted saying it when hurt flashed in her eyes, but it was quickly covered up.

She turned her back to me and faced the gas flames of the fireplace. “We can’t speed up the divorce. There’s a mandatory 6-month waiting period.”

I put down the water bottle on a side table. “I can’t wait six months. It’s driving me crazy.” I stalked closer to her and ran a hand through my hair. “I can’t stop thinking about Vegas. We’re married, Lace!”

She wasn’t responding, and I was about to start pulling at my hair. “I can’t think about anything else. We made vows and I can’t get over it. I haven’t been able to fuck anyone. I tried. I can’t even kiss anyone without getting disgusted.”

She turned to face me. We were standing so close now, I could feel the air crackling between us.

Her question was softly spoken. “What do you want from me, Bash?”

“I want to fuck my wife.”

Chapter 14

Lacey

“I want to fuck my wife.”

The air between us sparked hot and heavy, making it impossible to draw a full breath.

I swallowed as a rush of desire swept through me. “That’s not a good idea.”

He stood so close to me, I could feel the heat coming off him. Why did he have to look so incredibly sexy right now? I desperately wanted to give in, but the smell of cheap perfume and the pink splotches on his clothes reminded me of how dumb that idea was.

Looking into my eyes, he reached out and put his palm on my cheek. “We’re married, Lacey. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying each other.”

Quivers of longing ricocheted down my spine. I’d thought he was drunk when he showed up, but now I wasn’t sure. It was almost 1 a.m. and he’d shown up out of the blue for a booty call. I didn’t really believe his adult tantrum about keeping his vows and not being able to have sex. That seemed unlikely for someone like him.

He’d always been a man whore. I’d never minded in the past, but I was a different person now, looking for different things. I was 32 years old — past meaningless hookups and more into exploring longer-term relationships. I needed to send him home.
