Corvin leads the way to the administration building. I’m falling behind but I can’t find it within myself to care because this is fucking amazing. I’ve visited CHU but it didn’t look like this, the buildings are old and spaced out. Wake Forest University has a welcoming type of feel to it. The quad is filled with students milling about or heading to their first class of the day. Not watching where I’m going, I smack into someone. I stumble back but he snakes his arms out to grip my waist to keep me from falling.

“Hey, you good?” I look up and smile, my savior hasstunning, green eyes, sandy blond hair, and a smile that could melt the panties off any woman.

“Yeah, I’m good now,” I say with a flick of my brows earning a laugh from him. He drops his hold on me and takes a step back. “What’s your name?”

He chuckles and shakes his head. “Ash, but I can already tell you are trouble.” I shoot him a toothy smile, I like this guy. The moment is shattered when I feel Corvin press up against my back. Ash looks from me to him and shakes his head clearly reading between the lines. “Nice to meet you, trouble.”

“See you round, Ash,” I call out as he walks off with his friends. The smile drops off my face when I feel Corvin’s lips graze my ear.

“Your desperation is showing, jail bait.” My jaw unhinges, and I spin around to give him a piece of my mind, except the fucker stalks off toward the admin building, leaving me no choice but to follow after him like a lost fucking puppy!

The moment Corvin gives the receptionist our names, she leads us through to the dean’s office, tells us to take a seat and leaves. I drop into the stupid leather chair in front of the desk and cross my arms over my chest, pissed off. I spy Corvin out of the corner of my eye dropping into the other chair beside me. I want to fucking smack him. How dare he call me desperate! I mean, he isn’t wrong. I am fucking him so clearly I am scraping the bottom of the barrel. I’m pulled from my thoughts when the door opens and a man with salt and pepper hair wearing a suit that looks too big for him enters the room. He smiles kindly at us, then rounds the desk and sits down.

“I’m Laurence Moss, I’m the dean of admission here at WFU,” he says with a smile.

“Thank you for seeing us on such short notice,” Corvin replies, sounding like a posh prick.

“Of course, Mr. Williams. I must say, we were surprised that you would transfer here, not that our team isn’t great or anything, but with only a short amount of time left before you graduate, I would have thought a player as accomplished as yourself would have wanted to finish out with his starting team.”

Corvin tries to hide his unease, but I can see it clear as day on his face. “I needed a change and was told that WFU was looking for a starting QB after yours was taken out by injury.” I tune them out as they discuss everything sports and what Corvin will have to do in order to get on the team and earn the starting position. Peering out the window of Laurence’s office, a pang of guilt hits me. Is this how Cody felt when she first enrolled in CHU? I wonder if she knew then that she would never graduate or make it through her freshman year. I close my eyes and will those thoughts away. I need to be strong in order to do this, if he sees me crumble all of this will be for nothing.

“Miss Sutton?” I shake my head and turn to Laurence smiling sheepishly.

“Sorry, I got lost in my head.” He smiles politely but I can tell it’s forced.

“Mr. Williams has supplied us with your transcript papers and the… court order.” I flinch at the reminder of my community service requirements. “WFU is willing to agree to allow you to complete your court order here but unfortunately, our classes are full until next year.” Hope flees me and I slouch back into my seat feeling defeated.

“No, that wasn’t the deal!” Corvin snaps, drawing the dean’s attention back to him. “She starts with me or I pull my donation and you go against CHU without a QB and someone who has inside information that will get you to the finals. Your choice.” I stare at the side of his head in shock.

“You would be throwing away your career here, no other school will take you this late in the year.”

Corvin doesn’t let him finish speaking. “You have my terms. You get her into the workshop as a student so she can study mechanics or I back out. Which will it be?”

Corvin and I walk out side by side. I have no fucking idea what the hell I should say. The guy put his career on the line for me, I never fucking saw that curve ball coming! Laurence agreed to Corvin’s terms, which shocked me further. I mean, I knew they were all rich and somewhat powerful but I had no idea just how powerful they are, or the fact they own half of CHU is mind fucking blowing!

Maybe I am in over my head.

If he is able to get a court to change my community service and get my court case dropped, I should have clued in then just how well connected he is. He unlocks the car and slips behind the wheel. I slip inside and close the door, waiting for him to start the car. When he doesn’t, I look over at him to find him staring straight out the windscreen with a blank look on his face.

“Your tuition is paid for, I also paid the next three years’ worth of your tuition as well.” My eyes widen to the size of saucers and my mouth drops open. “They’ll have a dorm room for you within the next couple of weeks, all your living expenses will be covered.”

“What is it you said to me, as much as I would love to believe I fucked some humility into you, even I know my pussy isn’t that good.” He slowly turns to face me, the pained look in his eyes throws me for a loop. “Why are you doing this?” I whisper.

“Because you were right, your sister deserved better than me. I couldn’t give her that so the least I can do is make sure that you do better than me.” Why the fuck do his words have a pang of regret hitting me in the chest. “I’ll get you everything you need for your dorm, all your books will be covered.” I open my mouth but no words come out, I just sit here and stare at him in shock. “I know this doesn’t change shit Alexa, I’m not stupid. You’re smart, really fucking smart and starting college early. Don’t let a fuck up like me ruin your chance at a better life. Live your life and have fucking fun.”

“Fun?” I rasp out. “How the hell am I supposed to do that when my sister is—”

“By living for the both of you!” he cuts in and says, “Don’t do it for anyone but yourself. Your sister wanted the world for you, and if I can help make that wish come true, I will.”

I eye him skeptically. “How would you know that?” He takes a shuddering breath then shakes his head and starts the car. “Answer me,” I demand.

He puts the car in drive and keeps his gaze ahead as he answers me. “Because she told me.” I just sit here and stare at him as he drives us back to his penthouse. He paid for my schooling without me begging or pleading or even asking him to. He never questioned my choice of career or told me to aim higher, just agreed and said it was cool. He fought for me today and I don’t know how I feel about that. No one has ever fought for me the way he did today, not even Cody.

We’re halfway back when I finally ask, “You’re really going to let me live in the dorms?”
