I shake my head denying his claim. “He can’t, he just played—”

Leah cuts me off before I can finish. “How the fuck would you know? My brother told me you never showed. He also told all of us the choice he gave you and yet here you fucking stand. Was breaking his heart not enough? Oh wait, let me guess you need more money, right?” My mouth drops open, anger thrums through me at her accusation.

“Goldie!” Darius tries to warn his girlfriend, but I ignore him as I meet her angry glare with one of my own.

“I was at the fucking game, miss thang! I just watched from a different section. Just so we are clear, I never asked your brother for a fucking cent of his money, so don’t fucking judge me when you don’t know shit about me!”

“I know that you love to fuck with my brother’s head and I won’t fucking let you do it again, or ruin this opportunity for him!” She closes the space between us, and thanks to our raised voices, Saint, Crue, Beck, and Valance now stand in the doorway behind Darius.

“Fuck you, Leah,” I snarl. “You told me not to come back for him unless I was all in. Well I’m here because I want him and I’m laying all my cards on the fucking table for your brother, you uptight snob. But I guess you lucked out; he isn’t here and I fucking fumbled that ball badly, didn’t I?”

“Yeah, you fucking did! You should have pulled your head out of your ass sooner and realized what an amazing fucking guy you had, but nooo, you just had to think you were better than him. Newsflash, you wannabe Wednesday Adams, you’re not! Corvin is ten times better than you–”

“Fuck you!” I scream.

“Kiss my ass, Wednesday! You fucking destroyed him and now it’s my duty as his sister to do the same to you.” I stand tall and wait for her to throw a punch or something.

“You really thought showing up here and admitting you loved him would make everything you put him through okay?” Saint asks. I can tell the question is rhetorical so I remain silent. Saint pushes his way through the others to come stand beside Leah, the look in his eyes tells me I’m his least favorite person and I can’t say I’m surprised. “How the fuck did you even find this place?”

I nibble on my bottom lip and debate if I should I tell them the truth or not. His eyes narrow in warning. “A friend brought me.” Crue curses under his breath and comes out to stand beside Saint, his gaze drills into mine.

“Katie was here, wasn’t she?” he bites out.

“Yes,” I breathe out, hating that I ratted on my friend.

“Where is she?” Crue demands. I stand tall and hold my head high as I answer.

“I can’t tell you. If you want to know, then you need to call her. I’m not getting involved in your… situation?” I voice it as a question because honestly, I have no idea what the three of them are and it’s none of my damn business.

Leah snorts, drawing my attention back to her. “So, you do have a heart.” I scowl at the blonde bombshell. She may look innocent and sweet, but the girl is a savage.

“Shockingly, yes,” I snap.

“Where was that heart when you were destroying my brother’s?”

Guilt rears its ugly head inside me. “It was with my sister.” Her features falter for a second before she firms her mask and keeps her face free of emotion. “I’m sorry, Leah. I was wrong for doing what I did to Corvin, I had no right to hurt him the way I did. I was angry and hurt, I just lost the one person in this whole fucking world who actually gave a shit about me. I needed someone to blame and…”

“Corvin was the easiest target,” she tacks on for me. I nod. “You ever hurt my brother again, Alexa, I will fucking flay you alive. I can’t forgive you for what you put him through, but I also won’t be the one who stands in the way of my brother's happiness. Fuck knows why out of all the women in the world he chose to fall for you. He could have done better, if you ask me.” My chest rises and falls, but the pain inside almost robs me of air. I refuse to break down in front of all of them. I spin around and prepare to walk my ass to the nearest bus stop and get the fuck out of this place and never come back.

“Wait!” I pause and peer over my shoulder, she’s nibbling her bottom lip, looking torn between wanting to rip my hair out and helping me, I pray for the latter. She eyes me up and down for a minute before a whoosh of air escapes her. “Where’s your luggage?”

I frown at her odd question. “The airline lost it.”

She rolls her eyes. “Fine, you can use Corvin’s clothes he left in his room, I don’t like you enough to share mine with you.” I scrunch my face in confusion. She throws her hands in the air, exasperated with me. “Get your ass inside. You can stay with us until we figure out a way to get Corvin here.” Hope sparks inside me.

Four weeks later

I spent Easter weekend with Leah and the others at their cabin, trying to formulate a plan that would get Corvin there, but when Darius called him, he didn’t answer. The others tried and were sent straight to voicemail. Sunday finally rolled around, and Darius received a text from him saying that he wasn’t allowed his phone at training camp. Needless to say, I left them all downstairs and locked myself in Corvin’s room and cried. Leah and I are on speaking terms, but I wouldn’t exactly call usfriends—we’re more like frenemies. Saint and Crue took off Saturday morning to hunt down Katie and Nathan, but returned later that night looking dejected and guilty. Darius and Beck were kind, Val was welcoming and really sweet. She texts me every couple of days to check in. I’ve heard from Leah a couple times, which blew my mind, but she seems to know how to humble me by tacking on an insult at the end of every text message.

That weekend gave me a chance to get to know the girls and guys better, but it still felt weird being there without Corvin. I fucking miss him. When I landed back in North Carolina on Monday night after Easter, I went straight to the penthouse only to find it empty. I stayed there that night, hoping he would only be away for the weekend. Then one night turned into three and three turned into a week. After the second week of him not showing up, I stopped staying there and went back to my dorm.

I should have stayed at his house and never come back to school.

“Sweet juice.” I clench my hands into fists at my side and take a deep calming breath. Only two more weeks of school before the summer break and then I can get the fuck out of here and away from his royal fuck-hole. I ignore him as I push through the doors of the building that houses my English class. I hope to lose him in the crowd, but no such luck. He slides up beside me and I do my best to ignore him as best as I can. The week after Easter break, he showed up in my class with Shannon, I nearly died at the sight of him. “Baby, how long are you gonna ignore me for?” I slam to a halt and turn to face the monster from my past. His face is covered in sores from the drugs. His once vibrant blue eyes are dull and devoid of any spark. His blond hair used to be styled perfectly and never had a hair out of place, but now, he just looks like a hot mess.

“Until you tell me why the fuck you are here, Jason?” He admitted that he tracked my phone. He isn’t even a student here and claims to be taking a gap year, but I don’t buy it.
