A broad smile came across the older woman’s face. “We find it very relaxing here after a hectic week in town.”

“Perhaps we should get a place here,” Liam said cheerily.

I played it up. “Good idea. Maybe we should scout around a little.”

Felicia left us to unpack.

I waited until I heard her descend the stairs. “Buy a place? Really? On the beach? Just like that?”

“Sure, why not?” he answered.

I walked my cosmetic bag into the bathroom. “Maybe in your world, but not where I come from.”

He followed and surprised me with a light hug. “My girlfriend deserves the best, and a proper boyfriend would notice how taken you are by this place.”

Up against him, the warmth of his chest against my breasts sent unexpected tremors up my spine. I buried my face in his shoulder, wanting to stay here with him, listening to the surf.

I did think the setting was magical. Who wouldn’t love a nice place to relax by the beach? In his world, wishes could become reality with the snap of his fingers and a few seconds of his pen to the checkbook.

He rocked us. “Did I tell you how lovely you are today?” He placed a quick kiss on my forehead.

“Only a few dozen times,” I said, still clinging to him.

He released me.

It had been a simple hug, but the tenderness of his embrace came from a whole different dimension than the quick squeezes Matt had given me. I hadn’t realized until just now how comforting it was to be enfolded in the strong arms of the right man——a man who would protect me, a man I could admire, a man I could trust, a man who cared, a man who cared what I thought.

“We should head downstairs and mingle, or do you need a minute?” he asked, pulling me from my trance.

“No. I’m fine.”

After crackers and cheese in the kitchen and a tour of the grounds with a stroll down to the sand, Hue insisted on taking Liam out shooting.

I’d expected us ladies to just sit around and talk, but Felicia had other plans. We were headed to the spa.

This got more bizarre by the minute. I’d splurged to have my nails done, but never a spa day. The life of the rich and famous awaited.

But my thoughts stayed with the fact that in a few hours, Liam and I would be back in the upstairs bedroom——no audience, just the two of us together with the sound of the waves.

The bed awaited, and Liam was, well, Liam, the strong-willed warrior, the lion whose eyes could freeze me in place, the man whose touch could singe my skin. Liam, the man whose hair smelled of old leather, and whose kiss tasted like bottled lust. I couldn’t wait.

“You coming?” Felicia asked, pulling me out of my daydream.

I scurried to pick up my purse on the way to the door. “Sure thing. I can’t wait.” I didn’t mean the spa.

Liam

We arrivedat the skeet range quickly the way Hue drove. Speed limits seemed mere suggestions to him.

“Have you done much shooting, Liam?”

“A little,” I told him. “When I was younger, with Wendell, my dad. He thought all of us should be familiar with firearms, so we shot pistols and rifles, mostly.”

“Ever shoot skeet before?” he asked as we pulled into a parking spot.

I undid my seat belt. I wasn’t used to being in the passenger seat, at the mercy of someone else’s driving. “Four or five times is all.”
