“No,” she said curtly before pulling away, rushing into her bedroom, and slamming the door.

Shit.

Chapter 17

Amy

I leanedagainst the door I’d just slammed in his face.

“No?” he asked through the wood after a moment.

“Not until you apologize three times.”

He laughed. “I’m sorry I didn’t explain things on the phone.”

That made two. He’d thought he was going to train me, but two could play that game.

“And?” I asked, still leaning against the door.

“And I’m sorry I didn’t kiss you last night,” he added. “I wanted to…”

My heart leaped at his admission.

“But I didn’t want to take advantage of the situation, given the agreement we have. I thought you’d let me know if you wanted a kiss, and I didn’t get that vibe.”

Obviously I had been too coy. Agreement or no, I couldn’t help myself. I opened the door.

I placed a hand behind his neck and pulled myself to him, inches from his lips. “And what about now?” I murmured, matching the fire in his eyes.

“You know us Californians; we’re pretty dense.”

I pulled myself the rest of the way to him and our lips met.

He snaked a hand behind me, pulling me in tighter, pressing my breasts against him, and taking control of the kiss.

This was the kiss I’d longed for last night, the kiss that told me how he desired me, as I desired him. My mouth opened to him as our tongues sought to reacquaint themselves after five days apart.

I threaded my fingers through his hair, holding him close.

He reciprocated by finding his way to my breasts, stroking my nipple with his thumb through the fabric separating us, lighting a fire in my chest as I longed to strip his clothes off.

His hands continued to trace the outlines of my body through my clothing as our tongues sparred for position.

He smelled of old leather and manliness and tasted like pure sex, all power and need.

As we traded breath, I fell under his spell, the same one he’d used on me our first night. At every spot he touched, my nerves lit up like a pinball machine, sparks bouncing from one side of my body to the other.

He broke this kiss and let me go. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to overdo it. We shouldn’t…”

I looked down. “Yeah, boundaries.” My chest tightened. I’d been the one to insist on them, and now I’d pushed him to break the rules. “My fault. I shouldn’t have said anything. It won’t happen again.” I had to stick to the rules I’d requested.

He sighed. “No, it’s my fault.” He walked past me. “We should get going.”

“What’s your hurry? And you said you’d explain first. That’s going to cost you another apology.”

“You’re right, Amy. I’m sorry I still haven’t explained.” He took another step back.

I waited.
