“Yeah, I suppose. The two of us were constantly at each other. I was more of a daddy’s girl. Dad said it was because the two of us are so much alike. We’re both stubborn, strong-willed, and speak our minds, regardless of feelings to others.”

“I can see that.” Really, I could because I’ve seen it plenty of times with Chelsea. “But I also bet you both feel deep for those you care about.” I knew this to be true considering the way she is with Storm and now Meadow. Not to mention I’ve seen it in her eyes, the pain I inflicted on her emotionally.

I decided to change the subject by asking her a random question. “What’s your favorite color?”

“You seriously want to ask me my favorite color?” She snorts.

“Yeah. I want to know, and for the record, mine’s red.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, really.” I smirk, glancing her way. “Now, tell me what’s yours.”

“I love the colors teal and burgundy. What’s your favorite TV show?”she asks.

“Should be obvious, brat.” I chuckle. “I’m all about watching the Discovery channel. Parker onGold Rushis cool as shit along with the dude up in the Yukon with the white beard. You know, he said the way he stays healthy is by having sex in the morning with his wife along with other times.”

“Are you serious?” Chelsea giggles.

“Yeah, morning wood is an everyday occurrence so I can see the reasoning for this.” Grinning, I glance in her direction and wag my brows. “This morning was definitely good for me and a great way to start the day. It mellowed me out enough I didn’t rip the prospect’s head off like I originally wanted to do.

“Oh. My. God. Shut up.” She rolls her eyes.

“What’s your favorite show? Isn’t itJustified? I’ve seen you watching it several times.”

“It’s one of them,” she mumbles.

“What are the others?”

“Games of Thrones, House of Dragons, Criminal Minds, 911, 911 Lonestar. . . I can continue if you like.”

“I get it. Those are some awesome shows.”

I could get down with watching some of that with her, but not theGames of Thronesbullshit. I watched it one time around and the finale pissed me off, so I refuse to watch anything else related to it.

The two of us continue the question game going back and forth the rest of the way to the burger joint we’re stopping. Thanks to the game, I found out her favorite sport is baseball with football being a close second. She’s a Broncos fan but cheers for the Steelers as well. Her baseball team she said she sticks with the Rockies, but when it comes to college ball, she goes with VMI every time. She didn’t explain why, and I didn’t ask. I also learned she has a passion for reading and why she loves her snake so much (her dad got him for her several years back before he passed).

Guess I know I’ll have to suck it up and deal when it comes to the python.

Pulling into the parking lot, I put the car in park and turn the key shutting the engine off. “Ready to eat?”

“Starving.” She sighs and unbuckles.

“Good, then let’s get you fed, and we’ll get back on the road. You can sleep while I drive.”

“Um, no, not happening. I’ll stay awake.”

“Chels, you can sleep, baby. I’m gonna drive through the night and get us back early morning.”

“Okay, and I can stay away to make sure you stay able to do that without getting tired. I mean I can also drive, considering it is my car,” she quips.

“Yeah, brat, I know it’s your car. It’s sweet. Suits you. But you ain’t driving. Not with me in the car,” I inform her, reaching out to grip her chin between my thumb and forefinger. “And that’s not me being sexist. It’s me being real. I don’t let anyone drive me around, not unless I’m bleeding out and can’t drive myself to the damn hospital. Now, let’s go get some food in you.”

Releasing her, I unbuckle and get out before she can make so much as a sound of protest.

By the time I round the hood, Chelsea’s opening her door and getting out. I jerk my chin upward to my brothers and move to my woman, taking her hand in mine.

It’s time to feed my woman and get back on the road. The sooner I get us home, the sooner I can see what Keys has found out. He didn’t want to disclose anything over the phone earlier when I spoke to him.
