“You too,” Luka says just as softly,

Pulling away, I reach for Chelsea again. “Chels, meet Luka, Luka meet my woman, Chelsea.”

“Luka.” Chelsea smiles brightly and stretches her hand out.

Luka’s grin turns into a full on smile as he takes her hand. “Nice to see you again, Chelsea.”

“Again?” I furrow a brow and look between the two of them. “What the fuck do you mean by that?”

Luka brings his gaze to mine and smirks. “You don’t know?”

“Know what?” I demand.

Chelsea sighs, getting my attention. “I know Luka because I’ve been to his office. I went there when shit was going on with Nines.”

“You did what?” I do my best to keep calm but it’s hard.

“I went to talk with those who could deal with the corruption at the police department.” She shrugs, like her going and talking about this shit with unknowns isn’t a big deal.

“She didn’t know I was your brother,” Luka speaks up. “I didn’t tell her I already knew about it and was working on it. I simply told her that I would look into it and that it would be addressed the first chance I got. At the time, I didn’t know she was yours, otherwise, I would have said something to you.”

“You should have said something regardless, considering it involved Nines,” I state tersely.

“Maybe so, but the way she spoke of the issue, she didn’t mention Nines at the time. I figured she was just a citizen of the town who was over the corruption.”

“Well, I was a concerned citizen,” Chelsea says. “I was worried about someone I care about.”

“You know better than to take shit like this outside of the club.” I glare at her thru narrowed eyes. “We handle shit in-house.”

“Yes, but you can’t take on a bunch of cops without blowback.”Chelsea rolls her eyes and huffs while stepping away from me. “Besides, we weren’t actually talking then.”

I take the subtle hint and clench my jaw tighter because I know exactly what she’s talking about.

“How about we just put that in the past? It’s done and over with,” Luka advises.

I nod jerkily but glower in my woman’s direction. “You and I are still going to have a talk about this.”

“Of course, we are,” she mutters and looks at my brother. “So, Luka, what brings you to town?”

“Well, sweetheart, I’m here to officially meet my sister-in-law.” Luka grins and looks at me. “I also need to talk to Lucky about some things going on he should know about.”

Fuck me. I know what he’s talking about, and I want nothing to do with this conversation. Unfortunately, Luka isn’t about to let it go. Not until he’s said whatever the fuck he’s got to tell me.

CHAPTER13

CHELSEA

Leaving Lucky and Luka to talk, I take a look around Lucky’s house. I didn’t even know he had this place, and I can see his reason for keeping it quiet. It’s absolutely beautiful.

On the outside it looks like a standard farmhouse, but he’d done some work, added an extension to the back and side of it. Even the barn off to the side looks to be remodeled somewhat.

Inside the house, the kitchen is spacious and big enough for a dining table that seats eight. The living room is set up with what looks to be a very large yet comfortable sectional. Hung on the wall across from it is the biggest TV I’ve ever seen, and in the corner of the room is a fireplace that I would love to curl up in front of. The master bedroom is on the other side of the house, it’s the part that was extended and it’s remarkable with a huge walk-in closet and bathroom. Lucky’s bed is a vision from a magazine. The wood looks hand-carved, and it’s pure beauty. Even the bathroom is beautiful with the massive tub and the large shower off to the side. I mean never did I think Lucky would have a place like this. Upstairs, three other bedrooms are still empty, and the thought of filling them pops into my head.

I quickly put a stop to that. Lucky may have a house big enough to fill with kids and still have room to himself and whoever he chooses to spend time with in his bedroom, but that can’t be me.

Or can it?

Lucky, I know doesn’t say anything he doesn’t mean. He never has. And that’s what confuses me. He says he admits to fucking up . . . that he wants this. If I believe him, trust in him, it’s me taking a leap and that scares me.
