I laughed when I set my phone down and looked back at my computer monitor. Our numbers were up this year, and we’d signed several new authors to our client list, thanks to my girlfriend’s keen eye for discovering talent.

I didn’t even like calling her that.

Girlfrienddidn’t do her justice.

Because she wasn’t just my girlfriend, or a coworker or even a friend.

She waseverything.

There was a knock on the door, and before I responded, she was pushing it open.

She strode toward me wearing a white button-up, a sexy-as-fuck black pencil skirt, and a pair of pink stilettos. She came around my desk and rested her ass on the edge as her legs settled between mine.

“How’d it go?” I asked.

“We signed her to a two-book deal. Easy breezy,” she said, clapping her hands together twice and smiling. “Ashlan Thomas is officially a client of Lancaster Press.”

Georgia wanted to run the meeting on her own with her cousin, as she was building her portfolio of clients, and the fact that she was working directly with Mara Skye and Ashlan Thomas was impressive for someone in their first year of publishing.

But she knew books.

She knew the market.

She had a brilliant eye for design and worked closely with the cover designers to create the perfect packaging.

“You’re amazing. How does it feel to have two of the most sought-after authors out there requesting to work with you?” My hands rubbed along the outside of her thighs.

“Pretty damn good. It’s crazy, you know?”

“What?”

“Well, when I came to work here, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I’d just gotten out of a miserable relationship. I’d studied art and really loved being creative, but I’d felt all this pressure to have a job that could support me.” She shrugged as her hand found mine, and she interlaced our fingers. “And then I found you, and everything literally fell into place. I know what I want in both my personal life and my professional life, and that’s all because I fell in love with you, Bossman. You helped me figure out who I was.”

I tugged her down to sit on my lap and wrapped my arms around her. “And you helped me figure out that there was more to life than just working and making money.”

Her head tipped back, resting against my shoulder, and she looked up at me. “What more did you find?”

“That I could actually enjoy the fucking life I’d been born into instead of resenting it. That I did still know how to laugh, even though it had been a long time since I’d done it. And you’re fucking funny, baby.” I nipped at her bottom lip, and she chuckled.

“What else?”

My thumb traced along her cheekbone. “That I could love again, Tink. That’s the gift you gave me. Because after losing my mom, I really didn’t think I’d ever allow myself to go there again. To let myself love someone so much that it would hurt to lose them. And I felt it that day you fell through the ice. That terror that I knew I would never recover from. But here we are, living and loving, and that doesn’t even scare me anymore.”

“So basically, what you’re telling me is that you can’t live without me?” Her glossy pink lips turned up in the corners, two dimples on full display, and sapphire eyes that could see into a soul that I didn’t even know I had.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying. Which is why we’re going to wrap you in bubble wrap for that family pickleball tournament you planned for this weekend.”

“Not a chance. I can’t smoke everyone if I’m being constrained.” She laughed. “Wyle texted that he’s going to be here for the tournament.”

“He told me. He’s looking for a house here now, too. Look at you, healing all the broken Lancasters and putting us back together.”

“I told you, I have a knack for odd sports.”

“You have a knack for making everything better, Georgia Reynolds.”

“And you have a knack for making me feel like I’m the only girl in the room,” she whispered.

“You are the only girl in the room.” My voice was all tease as I raised a brow at her.
