“I’m going upstairs.”

Padraig chuckled. “Good decision.”

Landon climbed the stairs, slowing when he reached the top and realized the television was still on. What would he say if Finn was still awake?

He continued on, only slightly relieved to find Colm sprawled out on the couch.

Colm sat up slowly when Landon appeared, his eyes narrowing briefly in confusion. Then he grinned.

“Which direction you headed?” Colm asked.

Like his twin brother, Colm saw everything Landon had been fighting like the devil to hide from Sunnie and Finn.

Landon pointed toward the hallway that led to Sunnie’s room, the opposite direction from the staircase that would take him up to the extra bed in Finn’s room.

Colm stood up and slapped him on the shoulder encouragingly. “Yeah. That’s what I thought. Good luck. And um, I think this is my cue to go to bed. Don’t want to run the risk of hearing anything you might do to my impressionable, sweet little cousin.”

Landon chuckled. “Surprised you managed to say that whole thing without laughing.”

“I’m a lawyer, used to spouting all kinds of bullshit. Just the same, if you do anything to hurt—”

“Colm. It’s me.”

That seemed to be all the reassurance Colm needed as he headed to the stairs, his room next door to Finn’s on the third floor.

Landon walked to Sunnie’s room, the door ajar. There was enough moonlight streaming into the room to allow him to see her. She’d already kicked the covers off and appeared to be wearing the same T-shirt/boxers deal she had on the morning he woke her for the interview.

He closed the door and locked it. Walking across the room, he pulled off his shirt, kicked off his shoes and socks and unfastened his jeans.

“Scoot over, Sunshine.”

Landon sat on the edge of her bed. She barely stirred.

“Sunnie,” he whispered, gently pushing her toward the center of the mattress.

She rolled with his soft shove, slowly coming awake and muttering something incomprehensible before pulling the pillow under her head and settling down again.

He chuckled softly as he shucked off his jeans and boxers.

“Sunnie,” he said again, crawling in next to her.

She stirred once more, turning toward the sound of his voice.

“Landon?” she whispered.

“Yeah.”

She shuffled, her head lifting from the pillow as if she didn’t trust her hearing.

“What are you doing here? Wait. Are you naked?”

He grinned. “We’re going to finish what we started earlier.”

He recognized her hesitance, and he hated it.

“I…” She paused. “We need to be careful.”

Nothing she could have said sounded less like Sunnie than that. Landon had been waiting for a lecture from Finn throughout the entire baseball game tonight. It never came, so he realized he’d given it to Sunnie during Landon’s shower.
