I circle my hips, letting her feel me everywhere, and she closes her eyes, surrendering to the sensation of us. I stroke the edge of her jaw, caressing along its path. “Open your eyes and look at me. I want to see everything, and I want you to see it too.”

Her mouth flutters against my touch as though she’s about to say something, but instead she opens her eyes and it’s like a jolt of adrenaline to my heart.

I grab her thighs, placing them flat against my chest, and press my body over hers. As I begin to move, slowly sliding in and out, she cries out my name. And just like the pounding of my hips, my feelings for her are deep and powerful.

Our bodies, like our hearts beat for each other, but we’re just two liars—pretending. With every slam of my hips, she takes pieces of me I never want to take back.

And as we reach our high together, I hope she always remembers us this way.

Untainted.

I love you, Lexi. Always.

CHAPTER19

JAX

“How long areyou going to keep this shit up, Jax?” Gabe asks, seated by the bar of our favorite pub. Lexi and Lilah decided on a girls’ night, so when Damian texted me about hanging out tonight, I didn’t realize it would be for an inquisition.

I purposely ignore Gabe’s question, staring at my phone and browsing the latest baseball scores instead. Hopefully, they get the hint and leave me the fuck alone.

“Are you listening to me, jerkoff?” Well, that clearly didn’t work. I internally groan before putting my cell back in my pocket.

Turning around in the swivel seat, I face his hard stare along with Damian’s, who’s sitting right beside him.

“Are you fuckers ever gonna let this go? What do you want me to say? We’re both having fun. Leave it alone.”

“Can’t you have fun with someone who isn’t my soon-to-be wife’s best friend?”

“Well, what fun would that be?” I wag my brows. I like pissing them off. It’s one of my favorite hobbies. They’re too damn serious all the time.

Damian shakes his head in disapproval then takes a swig of his beer.

“Listen D, I wasn’t looking for a steady hook-up, okay? It just happened. She knows what we are and what we aren’t. Don’t worry. It’ll be fine.” I’m not sure which one of us I’m trying to convince more.

Gabe chuckles in frustration. “Did he just say don’t worry?”

“Yeah, man, I think he fucking did.” Damian crosses his arms and eyes me with two missiles ready to take me out. “You know Jax, you think you have her and this whole thing figured out, but you don’t know shit.”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“I shouldn’t even be saying anything because Lilah will kill me, but you have to know.”

My pulse picks up and I find myself tapping my foot against the chair. “What the hell are you talking about?” I spit out.

“For some damn reason, she likes you, a lot, at least that’s what Lilah really believes. So this probably isn’t just casual for her.”

Damn it!I already knew that but hearing someone else say it makes it even more real. I pick up my Jack and Coke and drink the entire thing.

“I know things changed for you after your brother died,” Gabe adds, “things changed for all of us that day but—”

I keep my expression hard as I glare at him. “Don’t fucking bring him into this.”

“Just let me finish, man.”

Flaring my nostrils, I look straight ahead again, counting the number of liquor bottles on the shelves around the bar.

“I can tell you like her, you—”
