Butterflies flutter to life in the pit of my stomach. “What do you recommend?” I ask, glancing down at the menu.

“The beef bourguignon is delicious here, and they serve it with dauphinoise potatoes.”

My brow furrows. “You’ll have to speak English. I don’t know what either of those things are.”

He chuckles. “Beef bourguignon is a French beef stew made with red wine, mushrooms, onion, and bacon.”

My stomach rumbles. “That does sound delicious.”

“And the dauphinoise potatoes are sliced potatoes cooked with cream, cheese, and garlic.”

“Okay, I’m sold.” I slam shut the menu. “What are you having?”

“The same.” He smiles at me, making my heart flutter. “I’ll order us a bottle of champagne?”

I arch a brow. “What’s the occasion?”

“Having you sitting opposite me?”

I heat at his words. “You’re being extra cheesy tonight.”

The waiter arrives to take our order, and soon afterward, a bottle of champagne is brought to the table, and our glasses are poured.

“To us,” Remy says, lifting his glass.

I lift mine and clink it against his. “To us,” I murmur, taking a sip.

I’m not sure what that means exactly. Remy told me before we started sleeping together that he didn’t believe in love. So I know I’m a fool to think he might start believing in it with me. That somehow he can find a way to love me. Even though I know it’s silly, my heart craves it. I’m too much of a coward to broach the subject, though. We’ve only been intimate for two weeks. It’s way too soon to be talking about love.

However, I know deep down that I’ve loved him long before we slept together. My heart was his from the moment our eyes met.

“What are you thinking?” he asks.

I take a sip of my champagne. “Nothing much. Just trying to bear this damn vibrator.”

He smirks. “It’s only on the lowest setting.”

I almost spit out my champagne as it doesn’t feel like it’s on low.

He slips his hand into his pocket, watching me as he pulls out the remote control and turns it up, making me jolt in shock.

“Remy,” I breathe, clutching the table. “That’s not fair.”

His eyes darken with desire, the intensity shattering down my spine. “Fair?”He chuckles, mischief sparkling in his eyes. “I warned you tonight was going to be unforgettable.”

Suddenly, the champagne isn’t the only thing making me feel intoxicated. His teasing, wicked gaze and the relentless vibration of the device turn my body into a live wire. I can barely think straight.

“Well,” I manage to say, my voice trembling. “You’re doing an excellent job at it.”

Remy grins, turning up the vibration again.

I clench my thighs together and bite my lip to stifle the moan trying to tear from me. My fingers grip the edges of the table so hard they’re turning white.

His grin turns predatory, basking in the way he’s affecting me. The restaurant buzzes around us, oblivious to the torrid game we are playing under their noses. “Angel,” Remy murmurs, his voice gravelly. “Are you enjoying your... appetizer?”

I glare at him, but it’s weak and doesn’t have the desired effect. “You’re being cruel,” I say.

“Cruel?” He chuckles, arching an eyebrow, his gaze never leaving mine. “No. This isn’t me being cruel. You’d soon know it if I were.” He turns the device up again, and I’m sure I will come right here in my seat in the middle of this fancy restaurant.
