He cupped her face and stared directly into her eyes. “I’m a trained federal agent. He’s no match for me. Plus, I’ll call in backup and have the local cops cover my ass.”

Her blue eyes filled with worry. “I don’t like this.”

He didn’t either, but... “I understand, Angel. But this is my job.”

“You’re on leave. Send Nick.”

He should, but Nick probably wouldn’t get anything but silence. “Lobo wants to talk to me.”

“What if it’s a setup and he wants to kill you?”

“Then, he’s very stupid for asking me to come when he knows I’m an agent. I think this is something else.”

She held her hands out and let them drop. “Then, what’s the point? You’ve locked up everyone associated with the case. Anything he has to say he can say over the phone.”

He put his forehead to hers and looked her deep in the eyes. “I need you to trust me.”

“With my life. Always. But if you’re not back in a reasonable amount of time, I’m coming for you.”

He kissed her like his life depended on it, showing her how much her words meant to him. Because he didn’t doubt that she’d storm into the Wild Wolves MC and raise hell to get him back. “My angel’s got vengeance in her.”

She held him by the shoulders, her nails digging into him. “I can’t lose you now.”

“You won’t. I promise. I’ll be back soon.” He kissed her softly, taking his time, letting her feel how much he meant every word he said and that being with her was all he wanted. “Rick is still out there. Do not leave the bar. Do you have your tracker on you?”

She cupped her breast. “Want to see if you can find it?”

He growled. “Yes. Definitely. But later.” He kissed her quick again, then headed for the door.

“Text me the second you’re on the way back,” she called out.

“Lock the door,” he ordered her. He didn’t like leaving her alone, but Aria and several people were in the kitchen downstairs, so she’d probably be fine. Trouble was, probablydidn’t ease his concern or protective instincts.

He’d get this done, then be back with her.

He climbed into his truck and headed for the MC, calling Officer Bowers on the way.

“Bowers,” the cop answered.

“This is Special Agent Mason Gunn. You know me as Viper.”

The long pause didn’t surprise Mason. “What can I do for you, Agent Gunn?”

“Meet me at the Wild Wolves MC. Lobo’s asked for a meeting, and I could use some backup after I arrested his sister and four members of the club.”

“Why me and not another agent?”

“You’re closer. You know these guys, too. This is your town.”

“All right. I’m like, four minutes away. What’s the plan?”

Mason laid out the simple plan and thanked the officer for the backup. He didn’t really think he needed it. He was used to working alone and walking into danger. But because of Lyric and how badly he wanted a life with her, he wasn’t putting himself in undue jeopardy.

Plus, he believed her when she said she’d come for him if he didn’t return to her in a timely manner. For all he knew that meant in the next half hour, so he better make this quick before she did something reckless.

He pulled into the clubhouse parking lot right behind the cop.

Bowers parked with his cruiser angled to the club door, several yards back so he could see the front and side of the building where he could cover the two doors into the building. Smart.
