I want to punish her for these thoughts of mine, for making me ache when I normally never do. My mouth owns hers, pressing in, our tongues tangled, breath mingling.
But she breaks the kiss. “Dr.Daniels.”
I kiss her again, shutting her out.
She pushes against me. “Dr.Daniels.”
“You don’t want this?” I growl at her.
“I do. I really do. But the phone. It’s ringing. That’s my job.”
Shit. I take a step away.
She dashes around my desk and picks up the line. “Daniels Vet Care, this is Ensley. How can I help you and your sweet fur baby today?”
That’s her spin on the way to answer. It fits her.
She glances up at me, then presses her hand to her chest. She’s breathing fast.
“I see. I would be worried, too. When did it start?”
I run my hands through my hair. Her bra is still unfastened, the taut nipples poking against the fabric of her shirt.
I have to turn away.
This is torture. Of course it is. This isn’t some random woman. It’s Ensley.
I’m in over my head.
“I think Dr.Daniels is between patients right now. Can you hold for a second, and I’ll see if I can get him?”
She places the call on hold, setting down the receiver.
“Anne Watkins is calling about her fourteen-year-old husky. Apparently, he hasn’t been able to pee for two days. She’s on line one.”
I nod. “I’ll take it.”
She walks around the desk. I brush past her to take my chair. I have to focus.
Ensley pauses by the door, reaching beneath her shirt to fasten the bra again. I see a flash of her smooth belly and have to clench my fist.
“I should have left you alone,” I say. “That won’t happen again.”
She turns to me, hand on the doorknob. “Itbetterhappen again.”
And then she’s gone.
Chapter 25
ENSLEY
Screw dating. I want to bang Drew Daniels in his office.
I stay away for the rest of Thursday, but when Friday morning rolls around, I’ve had way too many dreams of naked Drew to resist walking by his office every chance I get.
Fridays are only a half day of patients. In the afternoon, we have back-to-back surgical procedures.
This means I have tons of extra time to go wandering the halls.
